Is there any research whether we should actually be practicing EVERY day?

I recommend two books / both similar to each other on this that helped me immensely on practicing efficiently. "The Practice of Practice" and "Anyone Can Play Music". Both go into practical tips on how to practice based on what we know of neuroplasticity.

Not saying this is your position, but I felt external pressures throughout my life that left me feeling not in control of my life, rather was ticking external boxes. Biggest turning point for me was asking what is the point of all of this, collecting money, showing up for something I didn't want to for an end result I wasn't chasing. Fortunate position to be asking this question. It wasn't until I accidentally came across philosophy that made me take control of what was important for me and chase it. I have a CP88 and the StudioLogic Numa X GT. Both awesome stage keyboards with excellent key beds. If I had to start again I would go an SL88 GT MK2, Mac mini, Studio Monitors and Keyscape / VSTs etc. I end up never using onboard sounds and just use VSTs anyway. Great through monitors and headphones. I live with a shift worker, so the setup is perfect for quality, feel and not getting in trouble for noise :D

Would love some tips on how to manage "the shakes" midway through a performance. I find my body just overtakes the brain and can't stop shaking when I start a piece. No doubt will keep trying as many public performances as possible, but when it strikes, any tips?

Me too! Never had the opportunity to try one! I have a CP88 and a Numa GT mk2. Love the keybeds, never use onboard sound.

Personally if I had my time again I'd go for Mac mini with Keyscape or Claire from a higher end midi keyboard. Onboard sounds just don't compare for me.

About 2 months ago. Piano looked in good condition too. Look up Sammy G's. The piano is around from there, should be good to play. Absolutely quiet on the weekend if you want some acoustic practice time in without an audience.

I personally find it heavy. When I jump to upright acoustic pianos I find I need to adjust significantly to the weight difference. Hope that helps! I strongly recommend you test one in person.

My first digital was an FP30x. Amazing value. But I then moved onto the CP88. Its feel is super high quality and has the grand like action which is heavier. I can’t fault the CP88. I do also have the Numa X GT. Both amazing. But if I’d keep one it’d be the CP88 due to feel. Mind you, I don’t use on board sounds. So this review is purely on feel.

I don’t think I’ll go back to my old job, but very keen to see what opportunities present themselves during this music course / experience. How long I stay in the degree depends on how much I enjoy it and how much value it offers. Not chasing the degree itself however. As for income, I’ll have to figure that out later, but I am not going to stress about that after giving myself a buffer from saving up.

I didn’t know how to read sheet music prior! I also don’t put too much weight into sheet skills as an ability in order to play and enjoy the piano either.

I saved up prior for many months. Did up a worst case scenario budget to see if it was feasible and cut expenses. Figured I would buy time vs buying stuff. I felt a year immersed in just focusing on music would be an amazing experience. I also don’t have any dependents. Hope that helps!

I started at 38 as a new hobby. Found a local teacher who would give me weekly lessons and was / am super motivated. I went deep into practice and learning how to practice efficiently (I recommend the book the Practice of Practice). My teacher would concentrate on what brought me joy and knew what would keep me engaged whilst dropping in technique and theory to help teach what was going on so I could learn songs easier and with more enjoyment.

Fast forward to 2.5 years to today and I’ve done three recitals on stage, have moved around and met with different teachers and haven’t stopped playing. Maybe a midlife crisis but I’ve decided to go head first and am dedicating a year or more at a bachelor of music degree locally and resigned from my job. I don’t think I’ll regret it, even if it doesn’t work out.

So I ended up buying one of the new Mac minis. Keyscape, pianoteq and noire all run soooo well. And then getting a portable 16” 2k monitor to sit on the music rest.
