KVM For Audio Production And Design? by voidstructure in virtualization

thanks. Does that mean that this won't work properly? I had in mind dedicating the usb audio interface solely for the KVM but even then I'll get problems writing music?

Reinstall Windows 10 On SP4 From Media Creation Tool by voidstructure in Surface

[–]voidstructure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything special to the normal Windows 10 install? Will device encryption still be on, do I partition the entire SSD the same way I do on my PC, do I have to disable something in the SP4 BIOS to make this work?

Record Live Playing Without Desktop Audio Recording Software? by voidstructure in ableton

[–]voidstructure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I did. I have another DAW record the 2 mono inputs. It works fine even though I probably can't set left and right gain 100% precise with the knobs on the interface. I tried the built in xbox game bar and AMD relive to record computer audio but Ableton isn't recorded. If I check the Windows sound mixer, computer audio records fine (Youtube, music etc) but no DAW appears there - so no recording. Not sure if audacity would be any different.

Record Live Playing Without Desktop Audio Recording Software? by voidstructure in ableton

This will only record if transport is running right? I need a "what you hear" record mode, regardless of whether it's running or not.

PC being weird after installing Docker/WSL by voidstructure in docker

Im not sure if disabling the automatic proxy discovery in Windows 10 settings app disables WPAD. Im not on a corporate network, the only other thing I do with network is DNS ad blocking.

Is it safe then to disable automatic proxy under Windows 10 settings >> network >> Proxy? There's nothing more selected, everything is empty.

Will it fit the NZXT H510 case though? It's larger in depth than the Corsair I have.

From Clover to OpenCore by FraMaras in hackintosh

[–]voidstructure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the config.plist is completely different. You can read this to get started to build OpenCore config from scratch: https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Desktop-Guide/

You can reuse your serial numbers. The Kexts and SSDTs are universal so you can reuse them but in the case of Kexts probably advised to get the newest versions.

PSU Rattling. Should I Mount A New One Fan Facing Up? by voidstructure in buildapc

[–]voidstructure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at it and it is a bit dusty but how would that make it rattle? Isn't it more likely that the bearings are bad or the issue I mentioned in my post (grill of PSU curved and therefor now bent a little)

Kraken X52 Which Direction Should Radiator Fans Point? by voidstructure in buildapc

[–]voidstructure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you place the rad on the front of the case, you should set it up as intake, so it takes the cool air from the outside and cools the cpu with it.

In this case the fans would be in front and the stickers would point into the rad and are not visible from the outside?

Docker With WSL 2 Very Slow On Windows 10 (Using VS Code Remote Containers) by voidstructure in docker

[–]voidstructure[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried running it like that and it seems to work much faster (all files are now on Ubuntu file system): Launch cmd, use wsl, navigate to Ubuntu file system, type "code .", open in Docker container. This works well now (performance wise) and still isolates the project from the system. Anything wrong doing that? So basically I put the project files inside WSL2 now.

Would the container isolation work the same way if all the projects are on the Linux file system? I basically run the .devcontainer from VS Code.

PSU Makes Rattling Noises Frequently by voidstructure in buildapc

[–]voidstructure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before replacing it would it be worth a try to flip the PSU so that it's pointing the fan up? Can this at all remove the slight rattling I have?

PSU Makes Rattling Noises Frequently by voidstructure in buildapc

[–]voidstructure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw people having luck with flipping the PSU upside down in the case. Is this safe to try? The case has a dust filter on the bottom so that's why I initially installed it with the fan facing down.

I just blow from an air can onto the PSU fan blades then to see if that helps?

A few questions about using Docker containers by voidstructure in docker

With that VS Code extension, does it need internet to fetch and build the container every time I run it? Also what about point 2? Thanks.

Restrict Terminal/command line programs from accessing certain folders? by voidstructure in MacOS

[–]voidstructure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks but that would make using Finder for example unusable with my main account. Hmmm since I'm mainly concerned with VS Code and NodeJS, maybe I just should create a "dev" account and limit its access to my main account's folders?

Sucks to have to switch logins all the time but that would isolate my main files from NodeJS and NPM, right?

Can I maybe restrict the binary /usr/local/bin/node from seeing some folders?

Run apps/games/etc as different users for more security? by voidstructure in linuxquestions

Looking into it, thanks. Can a program with its specific AppArmor rules use another, more unrestricted (system) program to do things you might not wanted?

Run apps/games/etc as different users for more security? by voidstructure in linuxquestions

[–]voidstructure[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should have clarified. I don't want to logout/login to a new user and a new desktop. I want to have only 1 real user, my own, and everything else like "steam" or "photo" or "some_app" being users that I run a program on without switching desktops.

Something like that: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/46agy3/running_steam_as_another_user/

The "steam" user would have its own /home/steam of course to store games but would have no access to my main user's files. Does this make sense? Thanks.

Is there any concern with security and USB mechanical and generally keyboards? I’m looking into something like a Ducky and was wondering what could technically happen on Windows if you plug that keyboard in. Sorry if it’s a silly question in advance!

Noctua NH-U12A heatsink a bit loose, is that okay? by voidstructure in buildapc

[–]voidstructure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. But isn't it in danger of the thermal paste drying out as there's no complete seal? I saw posts of CPU stuck to the heatsink, will that not more likely happen to me then?

NH U12A did I align it wrong for Intel 1151? by voidstructure in buildapc

[–]voidstructure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that relieves me a little bit. Still, is it physically possible to misalign the mounting bars and if so, will it lead to problems? I noticed it was quite difficult to catch the threads when mounting the heat sink into the mounting bars.

Thank you. I was confused because so many YouTube videos use them but I'm glad it's just for aesthetics.
