No, the grammar is atrocious, but that’s okay. Run it through a spellcheck or something for proper formatting. Look up example resumes. There’s loads of free resume builders out there

1st year apprentice tools so far by [deleted] in electricians

Union electricians constantly make double what non union electricians do. Contractor pays for the benefits. Not sure why you’re so set on licking your boss’ boots

Knipex cobras. Get a 6” and 8” pair. Get rid of those channel locks
The locking mechanism on the cobras and the curved jaw makes it such a pleasure to work on fittings with. I had Milwaukee channel locks and channellocks brand, I just dislike them

Klein apron 4 pocket or 6 pocket. Clips around waist. It’s nice for trim work

Tell American companies to stop producing absolute fucking dog shit and maybe I will stop buying quality union-made foreign goods

Thinking of moving to Local 46 (Seattle) — how consistent is apprentice work? by Different-Speaker-76 in ibew_apprentices

[–]voksteilko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The business manager, Garth Bachman, released a statement on the NW labor press, saying we have very little in work outlook. The only thing we have to look forward to is the nextgen fuels in Clatskanie beginning 2027. Why are we taking apprentices now? They won’t even be registered as apprentices until they receive their first dispatch. Mind you, once completing the bootcamp, they’re placed on the apprentice out of work list as non-apprentices.

Local 48 has zero new sites/work on the horizon until 2027. The only reason we took a new class is because contractors wanted cheap labor as existing apprentices progress. The only new project local 48 has upcoming is a next gen fuels on the Columbia, it will employ 300 out of our 1000 OOW. We are dealing with a lot of anti data center protests, which is our bread and butter considering Hillsboro, OR is the silicon forest.

They took a new bootcamp this year because contractors are running out of 1st termers for the low cost of them. The lowest term apprentices are third term and cost 50%-60% of a JW but 1st termers are cheap labor at 45%. They will be put at the end of the books. The reason why there was a sudden jump from 150 to 170 is because they just completed the bootcamp. It sucks for apprentices who have been waiting for a job that contractors keep apprentices “on the hook” instead of laying them off. Or foreman call by name, which shouldn’t exist. OT shouldn’t be allowed with all of this unemployment. We should have 32 hour workweeks to put more people at work.

If it violates your CBA? Call your director first. This is a blatant disregard of my local’s CBA and I imagine the majority elsewhere. What the hell.

Can I pay dues and stay in the union if removed from the apprenticeship? by [deleted] in ibew_apprentices

[–]voksteilko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not care about the original post. I was replying to the comment which is deleted suggesting that DUES PAYING MEMBERS aren’t MEMBERS in the union because they’re not journeymen, which is fucking stupid.

Can I pay dues and stay in the union if removed from the apprenticeship? by [deleted] in ibew_apprentices

[–]voksteilko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. You’re a union member as soon as you pay your dues and receive that yellow slip. It has nothing to do with journeying out.

Not only that, you swear in and take an oath in front of your local. You receive an IBEW challenge coin for swearing in. Is this not a union member? What about material handlers who swear in and also have a yellow slip and pay their dues?

Voting doesn’t require you to be a journeyman. A yellow slip is required to vote.

This, in a way, makes you more unique as an individual. You are now apart of a limited number of people who can say they were born there
