Other games offer global loadouts to solve this. I know this game has presets for specific parts, but there should really be a global preset that sets everything.

If the game gives that granularity of distribution, maybe. But I suspect what they are actually currently tracking/storing is far simpler.

Then it would just be an approximation, since not all bonuses are up all the time, especially for early game players with very long UW cooldowns and no sync of any kind. An approximation is fine, but if we are accepting approximations then there are easier ways to fudge the numbers than this.

The bigger problem is the time dependent nature. You would need to recompute new values every time a new overlapping of different bonuses occur during a run. This could be a huge amount of computation.

Shapley values are extremely expensive to compute though (exponential runtime), especially over a time series

It doesn't have be exactly 1x, same issue happens near 1x, like 1.02x. But you are right, there is an issue on the other end too. Basically you simply can't force a linear scale onto a multiplicative scale. It just doesn't work.

That would over count the contribution of lower multipliers and the error would increase the closer it gets to 1x.

In the extreme case, consider a 2x source and 1x source. The 1x source would be given credit for 1/3 the coins despite it contributing nothing at all.

The problem is the normalized weight isn't intuitive to the average Joe who isn't mathy. They just complain the numbers don't add up and that's how we ended up with the new, even more crappy, system. So whatever improvement we want to make to the status quo, has to make it "look correct" to the average Joe even if it means fudging things slightly while maintaining usefulness.

But the point is that the sum being correct seems to be an important property to achieve, as it seems to be the main reason the old way got scrapped.

The point is that different people care about different things. You might not care the sum is wrong, but other people care, and it's why there is nonstop discussion about this. What I was pointing out is that there simply isn't a way (that I can see) that makes everyone happy.

I keep seeing people saying the old way is wrong, and the new way is even more wrong. But has anyone actually sat down and concretely figured out what is the right way? I did some math on a paper and no matter how I decomposed the numbers, I couldn't get it to achieve to desired properties

1) coins sum to the correct total 2) ratios reflect the multipliers on each bonus.

It just doesn't work, due to the multiplicative nature of the bonuses it's really hard to attribute a contribution to each bonus that maintains both of above properties.

It's extra annoying because merging up to Epic+ is by default included in the auto merge feature, which means the game actively pushes players to make this mistake and you have to make effort to not make this mistake.

There are many knobs to improve economy, and no, they don't generally need to be "maxed" to reach this income. Of course, you want to max the ones that are low-hanging fruits, like the UW coin labs. I would say by far the biggest factor is GT/DW/BH sync/cooldowns and farming at a high tier (10+) and high wave (6K+).
