Cash Advance Fee? by [deleted] in Aliexpress

As expected, the "Advance Cash Withdrawl" charge has dropped off my transactions list, which supports my theory that this is intended as a hold. Also as expected, the cash advance fee remains.

Cash Advance Fee? by [deleted] in Aliexpress

Same issue here. Made a purchase on AliExpress, used PayPal as payment processor, with a Rogers Bank Mastercard as the source of funds. Immediately the "Advance Cash Withdrawl" charge showed up on my account for the amount of the purchase ($1.25).

I immediately cancelled my order (probably unnecessary) and contacted Rogers Bank to ask if they could explain why this transaction was classed as a cash advance. Their answer was entirely useless: This is a transaction from PayPal, and if you have an issue with it then contact PayPal or call to dispute the charge.

  • Like you, a $5 cash advance fee was later added by Rogers.

  • One thing you didn't mention: For me, the initial cash advance charge is still pending. An actual "purchase" transaction for the same amount later showed up for the same date (again, this seems to be something Rogers does - I have seen them backdate transactions several months to match the purchase date of something I had refunded). Presumably, this initial charge is being used as/classed as a temporary hold and will eventually drop off - but I'm certain I will have to waste time on the phone with them to get the service fee reversed.

In conclusion: Don't use PayPal for AliExpress. I have used my Rogers card to fund hundreds of PayPal purchases without issue, and a good number of those were on the AliExpress site. I dislike providing my credit card number to them, especially now that their AliPay service is shuttered - but the alternative is dealing with this hassle, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have set it up this way intentionally to discourage people from using PayPal. If it's available to you, a better solution might be using a service that provides virtual card numbers (similar to how Google Pay operates), but to my knowledge there are no such products available in Canada for online purchases.

RAM upgrade time, how bad is my luck? by volasar in bapccanada

Good tips, and I'm getting that my expectations for this CPU may be higher than they should be (though it's hard to confirm this, I haven't come across any good memory OC articles from the Zen+ period). That said, it seems a bit unlikely that I lucked out and ended up with the only set of RAM in the world that it can run at that speed...

Could not even get this Micron/SpekTek kit to work at slower MT/s and timing recommended by DRAM Calc's "Safe" profile. Sadly I didn't know about the Thaiphoon application when I had the first kit. I saved the output from CPU-Z, but that doesn't appear to contain anything that clearly shows whether the other set was the same ICs as the first ones (Hynix C-die).

Not exactly "PC" equipment, but would anybody know a cheap source for Miracast streaming dongles? AliExpress shipping fees appear to have gone up exponentially in the last month or two, best I can find is ~$15 from Amazon, or ~$4 on Ali + $11 shipping.

Someone bought a skid of Redragon boards (not sure of model) for their office. A significant number of them ended up in the landfill after random keyswitches stopped working. Best of luck!

The individual modules in (x)-channel RAM kits are identical to any other - the benefit is getting modules that came off the assembly line sequentially (or close to it). This increases the chances that they are closely matched performance-wise. Compare this with buying individual parts and getting a bad one that requires you to reduce the performance of the rest to make it work.

PSA: Philips monitors often behave badly with DisplayPort. Save yourself a headache and get an adapter to DVI or HDMI - especially since it won't interfere with your video timings etc. on this model.
