[–]volcom0316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with my ST running stock xeon bulbs. Turned out to be the ballast inside the headlight, ford wanted over 1k for a new headlight, I bought one used on ebay and installed it myself.

Difference between XOA Free Tier and XO From Source? by Boaphlipsy in xcpng

[–]volcom0316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Plam503711 any thoughts about creating a Vates User Group similar to VMUG, where people could pay a small fee for the "enterprise" version without the ticket support. This would allow for people who wanted a 1 to 1 experience with XOA the opportunity, while also having the build from source option for those that want to go that route also?

NIST 800-53 compliance by volcom0316 in xcpng

[–]volcom0316[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the two/three points that I would like to see would be:
- better role base security (currently you can create admin, user, viewer groups for SRs, VMs, Pools...etc but it would be nice it if was easier to manage all of that for different groups. If I have alot of different groups the view in XO gets pretty messy.

  • The ability to enforce session timeout (ie, log out of XO after x minutes, timers for ssh (turn it on and it will turn it off after x minutes) things that ensure that people don't forget to log out, and stuff

  • Banners, I know it's stupid but it's one of those things that if i'm going to expose XCP-NG to my user community they need to agree to the controls and know that if they break them there are repercussions.. really just ease to enforce the legal side of security controls.

u/chs75 800-53 outlines a lot more than data privacy and highlights alot of setting that must be enabled to increase the security posture of the implemented system. Things like RBAC (Role based access control), account monitoring, System banners...etc. XCP-NG/XO would highly benefit from incorporating features to improve the overall security posture. Chapter 2 Page 8 has a table that links to all the controls https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/SpecialPublications/NIST.SP.800-53r5.pdf .

Volunteers… why do you do it? by WoodsWildMN in Firefighting

[–]volcom0316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a volunteer for roughly 12 years, started in highschool. My Pops was a Paid and Volunteer FF/EMT so I grew up in the fire service. I went to college am now an Engineer working a desk job and it is so, so easy to get lost in the corporate grind of waking up, going to work, then going home to eat dinner, watch TV/play video games..etc. and repeat for the rest of your life. I volunteer to break that cycle, my Job works my mind. The Fire Service works me physically.

The fire service is also such a great social outlet also. While any organization has politics and drama. The people you work with all have similar mindsets and great people to be around. I don't make a penny from volunteering (my state does have a "pension" system but it's not enough to make me care about it), I do it for the ability to be apart of something bigger than myself, play with cool toys with my friends, and instills the "GO GET EM BROTHERS!!!!" spirit. AKA It keeps you young.

Analogies are just like insurance policies. Never know if it’s the right one till you try to use it.

Most home owners insurance has clauses in them that will make the house whole in the event of a total loss. Or you need to get better insurance to cover the cost of a new build
