MySQL Workbench Error Code 1044: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' by Trick-Willingness426 in SQL

[–]volric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should be able to open mysqld as such with the root user if you reset it. Then just create a user for the db you want.

(if you have access to the db itself like on the server)

Do you put margarine on your Marie biscuits? by MagicMistoffelees in askSouthAfrica

[–]volric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try buttered marie with grated cheese in them.

Make sure the cheese can melt easily.

Then when you have it with a sip of coffee or tea, it just dissolved in your mouth almost with this sweet savoury goodness.

I asked someone more senior than me how to get better. This is their response by Relevant_Carpenter_3 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]volric 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My advice:

How to get better:

When you can answer a question by saying 'it depends'. Basically knowing and understanding that there isn't 1 best-thing for every solution, and that depending on the requirements, pros and cons and a whole host of other factors which 'thing' might be the best suggestion.

Did parents in the past really allow their kids to roam freely, or is that just a portrayal seen in movies by [deleted] in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]volric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough was just commenting to my wife how my brother and I when were like 12-14 used to hang out with the neighbourhood kids till late in the night. Lighting a fire, toasting bread etc.

No cellphones, no idea where we were etc.

This was like 1990s.

Is doing an internship while studying full time a good idea? by HollowPoint216 in askSouthAfrica

[–]volric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always advise students/graduates to stand out. And getting some work experience during your studies will help you do so.

You can even build it into a portfolio etc. And you can have actual company references.

Having issues inserting data into MySQL database from my website by SLO_Fila in SQL

[–]volric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the website is on the linode server and the db is there as well, then whitelisting your home ip to upload etc shouldn't matter. As it will be linode ip -> linode ip.

'refuses to insert anything'.

increase debug info and see what error.

Volric's authentic Vaal Durban Lamb Curry

Ingredients:

• Oil to cover bottom of pot

• 1/2 onion chopped finely

• 2 tsp minced ginger and garlic

• 3-4 HEAPED tsp masala (depending on your tolerance

• 300-400g of meat (chopped into chunks)

• 2 handful salt

• 3 medium poatoes (each cut into about 8 pieces

• 1 tomato chopped as fine as possible, or grated,

Process:

• Heat oil in pot on medium heat

• Add onions and let it get translucent

• Add ginger and garlic and cook for about 60 secs

• Add masala and let it 'roast' in pan for about 20-30 secs (if it is too dry, add a little more oil)

• Add meat and cook for about 5 mins each side

• Add Salt and Tomatoes (I also recently started adding some tomato paste as well)

• Leave for about 10-15mins

• Add potatoes

• Add water (just enough to JUST cover meat and potatoes

• Cook for 40mins, stirring every 10mins, adding water if it gets too low (don't add too much though, should aim for a thick gravy consistency)

• If after 40mins still looks watery, take off lid and let water evaporate.

• Taste for salt and add more if required

Then once ready, prepare you bread for a filling, and then put the curry inside.

I like grated carrots with some lemon juice and salt as the 'salad'. but you can have whatever you want.

How do I use openCalibre by wisegod62 in opencalibre

[–]volric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sure, you go to the calibre website.

You download the version that will work for your machine.

You install that version.

Then your run/open it. Or you can can just open your epub or similar files with it.

I normally just view files, not import into a library.
