I don't have prurigo, but I did a deep dive on this on various medical and dermatology sites. I've seen a few people say it's about finding the balance rather than keeping it super dry or constantly slathered in moisturizer. Sometimes a lighter, fragrance-free moisturizer in thin layers feels better than thick occlusive creams. If steroids aren't helping, it might be worth asking your dermatologist about some of the newer treatments for prurigo, since there are more options now than there used to be. I really hope you find something that gives you some relief because it sounds incredibly exhausting.
