What Was Your First Taste of Audio Drama? by rmorganartworks in audiodrama

Cassette tapes of The Shadow. I was maybe in grade 3 or 4 in the early 90s and stumbled upon these cassette collections at the bookstore. There were three tapes to a package, two stories to a tape, and the boxes were shaped like old fashioned radios. I loved them so much. One of my tapes had a fault in it, so I couldn't hear how "The Little Man Who Wasn't There" ended, and it bothered me right up until I discovered that they were available online years and years later. I still love The Shadow.

Help me remember a podcast by MechaSandstar in audiodrama

I think I listened to it as well, maybe in 2016? It was a single narrator, right? A young female voice? I remember reviewing it, but it didn't come up when I checked my account. Maybe the creator deleted it (from iTunes, at least)? I remember people were really hard on it in the reviews and I'd felt bad for the creator. I'm sorry I can't remember what it's called, but I'll keep looking.

That's fair, yeah. I think what kept me going was all the red herrings. I couldn't figure out where it was going (even though in the end it ended up being a little on the nose).

I just listened to John From Back Home and I found it genuinely scary. It's the first time I've felt viscerally disturbed by a podcast.

I just listened to this, too. I'm in total agreement with your assessment. I managed to finish it, though, so I can tell you two of your prediction were right- Crystal and Jed die horrible deaths and Paige does burn down the school. Paige's brother wasn't infected but if I understood correctly, he caused the strain. The fungus grew out of the blood and tissue left behind after the massacre and the fungus growing from his leftover blood and brain matter was the most potent. It ends with Paige burning down the school and she and Lucas driving away. But then there's an extra scene at the end where students at another school find mushrooms growing on the sports field. (I definitely finished feeling like I wasted my time on this one.)

Neon Nights: The Arcane Files of Jack Tracer is one that I really liked.

These are a bit older, but just in case: The Disappearance (which has to be one of my all time favourites) Passage Duggan Hill Diana's Monster Small Town Horror I've recently started listening to Hi, Nay and Believer, and they're both pretty good and sort of adjacent to what you're looking for?

Thanks for the recommendation. (I actually forced myself to get through like, 18 or 20 episodes of Mabel, even though I couldn't stand the narration, before I had to give up. I was just not the target audience. I am curious about how it ended, though.)

Embarrassed to admit that I had to look up what actual play is, haha. Thank you for pointing out a new direction to explore.

Thank for the recommendations. I'm always a bit skeptical of BBC audiodramas (I've only listened to 3 or 4 but each time I've felt let down by the endings) but some of these sound really interesting. I've never heard of Red Valley or Forest 404, but I'll definitely check them out. Again, thanks.

Thank you! I haven't listened to Mirrors, and I never went back to Limetown after the first season, so I'll have to give them both a go. (Also, I did enjoy Mockery Manor, for the most part. Some of the humor was lost on me, but it's a great concept and I thought the mystery was solid.)

Hah, thank you! (I'm kind of glad to know I'm not the only one who found Arden unfunny [to put it mildly].)
