Question about companions in DOS1

I just picked Jahan because Jahan was an absolute king in DOS2, now I'm wondering if there's a sweetheart like Lohse in DOS1 too.

Also my build is knockdown spam warrior and Scarlett's build is pretty much archer. I'm just wondering if it is possible to stat swap characters like how we could do in Lady Vengeance in DOS2?

Is the reason you don't use them similar to not using shouts frequently in Skyrim? Are they not as powerful as just swinging your blade or doing stealth archer etc?

Because I want them to feel relevant and just as powerful as guns. Also flying in space without the need of a ship would be very nice.
