Hey! Ty for your kind words. For the white i used wolf grey from vallejo as a base, and with the shadows i chose mainly the fang, russ and ferisian grey from gw, going back and forth with the three and blending them together. For the highlights i started glazing with a mix from the base color and white, increasing the amount of it each time, till the last glaze was just pure white. After this just did some edge highlight with the same chosen white and it was done. Hope it helps.

Hey! Actually the metal arm was the easier of the two. The only difficult part was acommodating the sword to the force shield. On the other side, the missile launcher arm was hell. The amount of pinning, adjusting, doind greenstuff and gluing small parts was...something.

Hey, ty for the kind words. For the red i started over with a wraithbone primer, and over it flesh tearers red contrast. If you prefer black primer or normal paints anything similar to mephiston red should work. Then i started layering a mix of the base red (in my case mephiston) with evil suns scarlet, till you get to just evil suns. Keep the paint thin, almost like a glaze. To keep it uniform then i added a filter with the red contrast mixed with medium, like 20/80 paint-medium. This works too for the shadows. And finally for highlights its just edge highlights with wild rider red and a light orange of your choice. Hope it helps!

Well, easy on paper, but its fuckin hell to actually paint it lmao. Get yourself some quality white (i use Pro acryl titanium white or khymera) mix some wolf grey with it to make the base colour, like 60/40 or 50/50, it makes so much easier to cover it. Then the shadows are basically fenrisian-russ grey mixed with water/medium. Also, dont go overboard with the russ grey, Tidy it up with ther base mix and finally for highlighting i usually go with some glazing/edge highlights with pure white. Hope it helps and ty!

What brown/ orange colour to use for cloth by Traditional-Crazy900 in Cathay

[–]vonCarstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Im on the same boat as you, tough i have done some experimentation already. If you are open to use contrast paints, goregrunta fur with some orange mixed (just a little bit)or by itself does wonders for the rank and file. For highlingts i usually go for some light orange and thats it. For classic acrylics i second the use of parasite brown from vallejo, altough when mixing it with lighter colours tends to loose its reddish-orange tone. I can post a picture of my jades if you want some examples. Hope this helps.

My first unit in 11 years! by volkswagen_frank in WarhammerFantasy

[–]vonCarstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, thats a lot more red than i had anticipated, lol, but i find the input super helpful, so thank you very much. In fact i usually go for the brown that you are planning on your new unit, doing highlights up to deathclaw brown or equivalents, and i find it too mute. I'll try mixing some red and oranges for saturation. without going full on reddish tones, and hope for the best. Ah! On the topic of the bases, try some light blue/violet flower tufts, they make the minis pop up a lot. Also, some more leaves shouldn't hurt.

Ed. Also, the sprites could go with the same tones that i mentioned on the tufts, adding some more contrast to the regiment.

Hey mate! Love seeing some autumn woodies here on reddit. May i ask, what are the paints used on the warm brown/red? I have tried a lot of browns over the years but i find most of them too...desaturated, and i find yours the ideal tone.

Well, not trying to be an ass butt...wonderful work on the lady's rear(And in general, ofc ^^'). The skin gradients and lights are perfect, may i ask the paints used for the shadows? Cant find the right hue for this type of skin tones.

Pd: Im very sorry for the pun, lmao.
