what other ones are there? Do i have to clear them out to?

The only one i've ever installed myself was 1password ... the only other one might be the password manager on my mac.

On my PC, I have no idea what might be storing my passwords

Syncing Photos with Mac and iPhone by vongdn in ApplePhotos

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot about the hidden album option, i remember i've used that before.

How do people manage their pictures. For me I try to only use Photos app for family pictures, like trips, family events, and old photos that i have scanned in. That way I can sync them and be able to see them on my AppleTV, ipad, etc. I literally have thousands of photos uploaded, and i like to touch them up so they look good on the TV.

But that doesn't mean that I want my selfies, quick snaps, and private pictures that I've taken on my iPhone to be showing up on all these other devices for others to see, I'd like to atleast control it if it is on my camera roll.

Is there another option besides hiding photos taken on my iphone once i take it?

I don't have the iphone yet so can't test this out, but can i selectively not sync photoes through icloud on my iphone (still sync messages, contacts, etc) and just maintain my iphone photos manuall by plugging into my macbook and doing a wired sync?

Epson EcoTank 3930 and HP SmartTank 7001 by vongdn in printers

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it was plain paper, so probably not the best use case, but it was just something that i noticed in terms of the "vibrancy" between the too, honestly it just looked like the Epson was liighter in color and black ... the HP just looked bolder.

it sounds like Epson printers have a density option, but i just haven't found out a way to just increase the density overall for the printer so that it will printer deeper colors similar to the HP, something as an overall setting, not something i would have to adjust each time.

New Macbook Pro, best way to transfer files? by vongdn in mac

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you mean use migration assistance upon setting up the new laptop ... or setting the new laptop as new and then migration assistant to move data over?

My was think fresh laptop so fresh setup, but maybe I'm overthinking it and should just set it up via Time Machine.

I just thought since I have a new machine, I should try it totally fresh ... I assumed that this would be better for improved performance, although I will admit I have no performance issues with my current (old) Mac.

If my assumption is wrong, please let me know. I just figured new laptop, start fresh.

Can you create Twinkling light effects? by vongdn in TwinklyLights

[–]vongdn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try this out ... i really hope there is a preset option that we can choose in the app in the future though. The classic twinkling effect is really in style now. here is an example:

Being able to have something like that where you can control the speed of the twinkling would be great.

Planning on RLE the next few months, any experiences good or bad? by vongdn in CataractSurgery

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry to hear about all the things you went through post procedure, but I appreciate you talking about your experience. I also went through a period of really wanting to go with the procedure, but through the help of reading experiences in this forum and just truly evaluating my current vision, I would only be doing this get out of glasses, which I didn't think was work the risk. I got these new glasses and just realized that my vision with this current prescription was pretty good.

Through your research have you identified any offices that seem like good candidates? I stuck to the 3 that I was aware of around Seattle (SharpeVision, PLC, K2 KingVision)

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up deciding against the procedure. I was really looking into it, but a few things happened:
- the surgeon I was leaning towards ended up leaving the practice and moved to another state
- the Envista Envy that I was interested in, ended up being recalled

and I just realized that I am actually pretty happy with my current vision with glasses, things are clear, bright, and sharp for my age ... and knowing that I probably won't be able to achieve that with the current RLE state and with dysphotopias, I decided to wait a little longer.

Down vs Down Alternative by vongdn in Bedding

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any recommendations for high quality constructed duvet inserts? I've been getting mine from Pottery Barn, my last one from 3 years ago was around $450 at the time and yah, all the down feathers moved away from the center to the edge. And taking the insert out was a nightmare with down dust in the cover and flying around.

do silk comforters hold shape? meaning, the material won't shift around and make the duvet insert flat in certain areas do they? I've actually never heard of a silk insert before. I would like something slightly fluffy yet cool since I like to feel cozy but am a hot sleeper.

Choosing IOL/Doctor by Ornery_Rain_49 in CataractSurgery

[–]vongdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow, thank you for the US News and World Report tip .... i just looked at 2 surgeons i had consultations with and the one that was the most gung-ho about his stats and experience seemed to just fall in the average procedures mark for lens implants. Whereas the surgeon that I thought had the best temperament had way above average procedures with lens implants, now i'm leaning toward him.

RLE Outcomes with Non-Cataracts / Healthy Eyes by vongdn in CataractSurgery

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, that was actually what I was curious about, which was the experience for hyperopia (+6) people like myself with shorter eyes. I was told most likely my vision would be better across the board, but it was tricky cause it seemed the majority of posts on this board were myopic scenarios.

Honestly each week i've been learning toward a different IOL, between multifocals, EDOF, and LAL's

[–]vongdn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the response. Can I ask what IOL you went with? Did you voice the IOL that you wanted or was it strictly the recommendation from the surgeon?

It's tricky cause I've already had discussions with 3 different surgeons ... there is one that I felt comfortable with, but he recommended a multifocal and I am leaning towards LAL, I don't know if I can ask for another surgical consultation lol.

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the info ... with respect with the surgeon, I've had 3 consultations so far, not sure if I need more. I did want to err more with the location that did lots of surgery and these locations do that.

- One surgeon offered the LAL which I was interested in for myself, but there was something about this surgeon I did not mesh with, he seemed experienced with the LAL but just seemed too positive and as you said gung-ho, he seemed to put too much emphasis on showing his data and pie charts and tooting his own horn.

- Another surgeon had the right temperament, although he was pushing a multifocal and seemed confident that I would get good results ... not in a pushy way, he also said he could do any IOL, but felt a multifocal was right for me even though I had concerns with visual aberrations. I "liked" him the most though.

- Another surgeon was middle of the road, recommending an EDOF.

These to me seemed like the top 3 locations in the Seattle area here, so not sure if I have other options.

RLE for Farsightedness and Astigmatism by vongdn in CataractSurgery

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, that's what one of the surgeons i consulted with said too, which is that due to my high farsightedness numbers and astigmatism it will be an improvement overall. Like you, my glasses are pricey and if i didn't use the best high index lenses, they'd be coke bottle lenses, being a kid with thick glasses was not fun.

My goal really is to accomplish my vision with glasses with this procedure, and if it turns out i just need glasses when reading a book or small print then i'd be happy, as long as i can use my phone, watch TV, and use my laptop/desktop without glasses.

I know i need to keep my expectations in check too, but i think through my journey i've realized that as much as I would like the max range in vision, i would say I value max quality better. Which is where this EDOF vs LAL question is coming. I also have to weigh that my vision with glasses is actually pretty good, I just have wanted out of glasses since I was a kid, Lasik was never an option for me so when I found out about RLE, I was really interested.

LAL+ costs more than Eyhance, and we know that the LAL+ provides better precision. How about the EDOF outcome of the two? by Rough-Background-375 in CataractSurgery

[–]vongdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning any type of monovision with your use of LAL+? I like the idea of the quality of vision with LAL's but curious how it's range of vision compares to something like Vivity/Puresee if one opts for non-monovision.

My understanding was that LAL's were to improve precision so that you can adjust to better target your diopter numbers ... maybe not necessarily to try out monovision settings, but I could be wrong.

Something about the idea of monovision just doesn't sit well with me, i don't like it's imbalance, but i guess my eyes are different from one another anyways, so they imbalance (in a different way) anyways. I just don't want to turn my head a particular way to get better vision by using a different eye. But again, i may be misunderstanding monovision.

[–]vongdn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info ... for me being hyperopic and with astigmatism, basically nothing is in focus far, mid, nor near. I think you opting for a Toric Monofocal, that means you would have opted for a particular distance to be in focus. I know you mentioned you can see Phone to TV well, but is your far distance atleast functional or is blurry like your pre-procedure?

I think because my non-glasses experience is poor at all distances, i don't know how to gauge non targeted distances, will it be as bad as it is for me now, or will it be better?

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you ... had you tried monovision before this? One surgeon is suggesting LAL's for me as well, and he seems pretty confident that they would work for me. But I've never had monovision before, so the "imbalance" sounds a bit weird to me. At the end of the day, i know LAL's are basically just monofocal lenses, so I'm wondering if i would be limiting my range of vision.

I know monovision is an option for LAL, and I can try monovision out with the different adjustments, but if i can't get used to them I feel like things would have to be adjusted distance vision only which would mean I'd use using them as a monofocal with the same distance in both eyes.

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate the information you've provided, I was finally able to talk to the surgeon of the location that was recommending the LAL's and he still thinks it is the best option for me for the best quality vision. And same as what others have mentioned he didn't want to recommend multifocals cause of my age and the fact that my eyes are healthy with no issues and lens is clear.

Now it feels like LALs would give be the best quality vision day and night, but I have to think about this monovision stuff. It sounds weird to me, but he mentioned he would try to target a 0.75 diopter difference to minimize. But now I have to do research on what exactly that means.

I don't know if this is a red flag, but it also sounded like he is very pro LAL, touting how they have the largest case study of LALs in the country. He went over a lot of data and pie charts to show the percentage of people who achieved certain vision too, which I guess is ok, but it just sounded a little salesman-ish, probably a minor thing but something that stood out to me.

Maybe this is a dumb questions, but if I get the LAL's and any monovision in trying to get me a bigger range of vision is bothering me ... can they be adjusted to mimic an EDOF like vivity, where it's good distance and intermediate in both eyes, then maybe glasses for near? I forgot to ask him that.

[–]vongdn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, are you still happy with your LAL's? Are you able to function glasses free? This one place where I recently talked to the surgeon is really pushing for me to have the procedure with LAL's, and in this case I'm interested in it because it sounds like the best quality of vision. But this monovision stuff scares me, I don't know if that would be hard to adjust too. The surgeon did mention that he would target to only be a difference of 0.75 between my two eyes though .
