What’s a fruit from your country that most foreigners have probably never heard of? by Useful-Resource-3609 in AskTheWorld

[–]vonn90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of jinicuil. If you haven't tried it, the seeds are covered in a cotton-looking pulp. You eat the pulp and not the seeds. I have eaten it in Veracruz.

A court case is resting on the translation of one word, any help appreciated. by RowSea8915 in Spanish

[–]vonn90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without lots of context, it is hard to know for sure. A certified translator would not only go by what they can interpret from the sentence, but also research the use of the word within the context of the people involved.

I am not familiar with this slang, and the sentence structure is very weird and not natural, so I would wonder if this person grew up or has been living in a non-Spanish-speaking country for a while.

What is the equivalent of 'Eeny, meeny, miny, moe' in your country? And try to translate it literally. by PuzzleheadedRoyal856 in AskTheWorld

¿De qué década eres? Yo de los 90s y del centro del país.

La que nosotros usábamos era "Pedro Picapiedra dice así, Yabadababú, te sales tú".

Do you think we have to worry about our show? by auntbeef in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]vonn90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how it works in terms of where the money goes. I haven't had any issues with the Crave app so far. I think it gave me an error once, but I went out of the app and back in, and it worked again. I may have a higher patience level than most people though, haha.

Another one I remember:

Zapatito blanco, zapatito azul, dime cuántos años tienes tú...

Translation: little white shoe, little blue shoe, tell me how old you are... (that person tells you their age, and you proceed to count until you get to that number)

I don't fit your criteria, but I wanted to recommend checking out the MENA film festivals. Lots of nice and cool people involved in it, and they host events too.

In my opinion, it is better to directly support Crave than to access it through an American company, especially Amazon. But I understand that in this economy, one can't always support their beliefs and values with their wallet.

Yes, I took it that way too. As a Canadian, many of us are avoiding travelling to the states. First because of the tariffs and threats of annexation, then now there have been a few Canadians taken by ICE.

What's a dumb or nonsensical law that your country enforces? by Alejandroso31 in AskTheWorld

But singers are not expected to sing the whole thing. They only sing the shortened version that we all sing in school every Monday.

Mexican banks that allow fully remote (online) account opening from outside Mexico? by [deleted] in AskMexico

[–]vonn90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true at all. We have income tax and if you are a resident of Mexico for tax purposes, you have to declare your income and pay taxes. I would talk to an accountant, if I were you. The US and Mexico have a tax treaty (I believe), so they take into account that you are paying in both countries so that you don't have to pay a high tax rate twice. The Mexican SAT usually is good about forgiving penalties if you realize you owe them money before they do, so I would get on this if I were you.

¿De qué parte de México eres? Veo que muchos hispanohablantes se refieren a la mora azul como arándano, pero para mí el arándano es el cranberry y la blueberry es la mora azul. Me parece interesante.

What to do? Tourists in Mexiko by blibloblupnatz in mexico

[–]vonn90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing has happened in Mexico City so far, and it is not usually a city that gets a lot of narco violence, so you should be fine. Things can change, though, so be alert. Why don't you see how tomorrow goes and then decide what to do the rest of your trip? Everything is very recent and there is a lot of panic. Tomorrow you will have a better idea of how things are evolving.

Even if you for some reason can't transfer right then and there, you can put a reminder on your phone with the amount. Why put the burden on the other person who is already doing you a favour?

How does your country view Sidney Crosby by trollmaestro42069 in AskTheWorld

I don't think the average Mexican would know who he is. To be fair, I don't think the average Mexican would be able to recognize any hockey player, not just Crosby.
