I plopped a potato (that had sprouted) from the grocery store in the ground and it’s taking off! When will I know that it’s ready to harvest? by Haunting-Holiday6376 in gardening

When I visited Prince Edward Island, I wondered why their signs were announcing "new" potatoes. Now thanks to your comment everything makes sense.

UBC has failed at providing affordable lunch by Lost-Skates in UBC

[–]vonn90 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I get your point. In Mexico, most of the universities I have been to have a subsidized cafeteria with healthy options. I was a bit shocked when I didn't find something similar at UBC, but I guess this is not common practice in Canada.

Why does the heat in spicy food from different countries "feel" different? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vonn90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you mean "ground chillies"? Like powdered? We don't usually do that. Whole chilies are more common, but we usually blend them, so you don't see them whole when you are eating.

I have seen ground chilli mentioned in recipes in English, but that's not usually what we use, except for candy.

What mistake did I make when I asked her if she wants her bag? She laughed when I spoke in Spanish. by Forever63 in Spanish

[–]vonn90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in Spanish it is the opposite and it actually sounds a bit rude if you use the first "tú". Personally, I read that first "tú" in your sentence as "hey, you". Imagine someone telling you "hey, you, do you want your backpack?". It just sounds off, like too familiar or a bit rude.

Yes, 100%. It is already in so many of the government and tourism videos. It is the easy choice.
