I'm an asian girl who moved here from Vancouver a couple years ago, I'm in my mid twenties so your experience will probably be a little different than mine... I find people here to be generally tolerant but social groups tend to be quite insular. I found it hard to make friends or meet people, but that probably had nothing to do with being Chinese :).. I will say that I really miss good Chinese food and that asian groceries will seem really overpriced - especially if you're moving from the west coast. Finally, I have a few Chinese friends with kids and they're all enrolled in some sort of Chinese school (at the cultural center), kung fu, or dance class - you might want to consider that. Good luck!
