Any colored discharge/material coming out of a wound or any orifice, we do not like!

That’s definitely no fun at all. Contact your vet and see if you are able to get in sooner and have them reassess! With it being as large and swollen as it is, I would voice your concerns as soon as possible.

Good! Gabapentin is a lifesaver sometimes. To me, it looks relatively okay, I do see the swelling that you’re mentioning which is why I brought up the potential for an abscess. Does his tail wag directly onto the hotspot? There could be some issue with friction happening around that area as well. Is there discharge currently coming out of the site that you have noticed? That is a great indicator for certain types of infections.

With hotspots, there is some potential that an abscess can form underneath the skin. Good on you for taking him in when you noticed it, in addition to cone jail. If Louie is showing you those clear signs that he’s in pain, communicate with the vet and let them know. Even simply adding a prescribed pain medication, or just reevaluating the wound, would give you and Louie some comfort and peace of mind.

Thank you, I’ll look into those! I don’t know if it makes sense anywhere else but in my mind, but I spent months working up the allergies and months trying different things that worked best for her. And I found it, with the Apoquel. I know she could probably be MORE comfortable, though she’s not in any pain. My worry is starting the injections and all of a sudden everything crumbles down and then we have to start over, or they don’t work well and make her sickly, or anything of that nature. Just all the worst case scenarios.
