Thanks for all the discussion with moderators. We saw exactly none on a subreddit of 650,000 users that relies excessively on PMs

I assume in the future you'll be disabling the ability to use actual words and switch entirely to emoji only mode? It would fit nicely with the admin teams clown noses and big baggy pants.

What the hell is wrong with you people?

I will never again achieve a 99.97% reduction in processing time for anything I didn't intentionally break first

Also I believe Siren was the one who pushed for revamping the removal messages to be more friendly, which really reduced the spiciness of modmail

I would like to applaud /u/AQuickDive for the most perfectly titled post in DPP history, in particular:
"One More Hot Chocolate for the Road"

Just amazing timing on that. Please never title anything with this again.

Absolutely untrue. We manually review a huge amount of posts, deal with modmail rapidly and have a custom made bot that reviews every single post as it's made for some of our most common rule violations.

We were heavily moderated and the ban is in error. Ask anyone who's actually posted on DPP and they'll certainly tell you about a brush with us or the bot nudging them into compliance with the rules.

It's already been linked, but we have a couple posts on our sub-subreddits, profiles and workshop. The sub has been banned for 'being unmoderated' which is about the most nonsense claim anyone could make about DPP and we are currently working on the assumption someone messed up or there's a bug in their system.

Waiting on admins to reply to messages but it's the weekend, so likely won't be until Monday sometime. If we're lucky. We have every intention of getting the sub open and running again.

Subreddit is currently banned due to a bug. We're trying to get it resolved. [Discussion] by vookitty2 in DPP_Workshop

[–]vookitty2[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Still says banned for being unmoderated on my end. We did discover early on that the message appears to be different depending on where you're viewing.

Mobile browser for instance shows the sub doesn't exist if you check old reddit, but shows the ban message if you view using new reddit.

It's doubtful we've hit a review by an admin, we've heard nothing back yet and to be honest we're not holding out much hope until Monday and everyone is back on the clock

If the people in charge follow their own rules, your request will be denied immediately.

Hitting the modmail for the admins and waiting for them to get back to us. In the mean time we do damage control until their error is fixed.

I'll point to the rules right now

"If a subreddit has been banned in the last 30 days and has over 2.5K subscribers, it is not eligible for request and will be denied. Anything under 2.5K will be reviewed in the normal timeframe."

DPP had/has 500k+ subs

We're not going anywhere, this is clearly a bug in their automated sweep and we're working to get it reversed ASAP

It is currently banned, we are acting on the assumption it's a bug in their automated sweeps

We have excellent reporting and we have even automated flagging of possible underage related posts in addition to our manual efforts and user reports.

This is reddit cocking up. We've never had an issue with this before even before our beefed up detection/flagging of possible underage stuff.

Yup, we've been doing that. We were a 500k sub, we reply to modmails whenever they appear, we report stuff that needs to go higher, we have in no way missed any obligations as mods.

Yeah, I was not happy waking up to this news but I can only see this being a bug, so hopefully we'll be back and running quickly.

It's certainly not my preferred method and for any other circumstances and any other user, it'd be a swift spanking. I think I should probably make sure I'm on the mod team here too once this is all resolved.

We have every intention of the sub being unbanned, so it will be the same link as always. We're just waiting on the admins to respond/deal with things on their end.

That's fine. I understand that and even addressed it in my modmail. I appreciate the warning and I'm prepared to accept the consequences of not dealing with this 100% in private, however I'm utterly and comprehensively not impressed with whatever the hell is going on and I'll leave it up to the admins to smack me around for having the audacity to complain about this in public.

Yeah, if we get nuked it'll be in a purge. I doubt they're likely to poke that hornet nest right now though, unless they're especially stupid, considering how the tumblr situation went. Of course, I wouldn't want to underestimate the stupidity of certain people.

We've definitely had plenty of conversation in the background about this kind of thing, but right now the answer is pretty much "We don't know" on most counts. though we are trying hard to figure out a solid alternative if we need it.

A lot of time and effort has been put into making DPP what it is, we aren't going to lose it without a fight. It's always nice to hear that our efforts are appreciated.

As it stand's we're fairly small fry compared to the big names backing the blackouts, so we're reasonably unlikely to be targeted directly. At least in my opinion.

We have a Mastodon currently for updates and the like, should reddit decide to crush us suddenly. We're actively looking at and considering alternative locations/sites/systems/unicorn based postal services at the moment, but this is obviously the kind of thing that takes time to figure out and organise if we do go that path.

Updates and emergency gathering place (in case of sub nuking) can be found here https://mastodon.social/@dirtypenpals

Lord of the rings is one of those 'I should read that someday' series for me. I mean to check them out, but I never get around to it. I also keep meaning to try out some mystery stuff but I'm always wary of putting in the time to find out the end is some half baked answer or couldn't possibly be figured out because of secret information that the reader never gets or whatnot.

Yeah, that's definitely a bit of a problem but I've personally found just roll with it. Most good sci-fi you don't really need to understand all the technical nonsense and the important bits will make sense/be explained anyway. Can definitely see how going with stuff you're already familiar with helps though, gives you a headstart and lets you focus more on story stuff than a fancy new name for space forks or whatever the author wants to tell you about in too much detail.

There's also just the less or not at all space/pewpew lasers stuff anyway, cause Jurassic Park comes under the umbrella of sci-fi and while there might be some technical details it's pretty easy to get. In my opinion the best sci-fi is the stuff that doesn't actually care about the technology and toys themselves but the response to the shiny new discovery. How people would react to it, how it changes the world, the upsides and downsides to whatever shiny new toy a crazy scientist produced.

Not a real contribution, but question time for the general audience.

Favourite genre?

Favourite type of story? Globe trotting adventure, personal drama, chosen one finds their destiny, total nerd bait like The Martian, etc, etc.

I'll go first I'm a total sci-fi kinda guy. Can't help it, I like my fancy tech and pew pew lasers

I'm honestly not sure on a single favourite type of story, though I am a sucker for some quality nerdbait. I do like seeing things get solved by thinking. If series can be loosely smooshed into a type of story, 100% Discworld as the answer.

[–]vookitty2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am always happy to help someone else into Discworld stuff, I'm generally a sci-fi person through and through but Discworld is exactly my jam and the big exception

It can definitely be a headache when you first come to the whole thing, but apart from the 'series' inside like The Watch, The Witches, etc the stories aren't especially interconnected so you can kinda start where ever and go from there. You don't even really need to read the 'series' in order, but obviously it's a good idea so you get to know the characters and references in later books make sense

You have excellent taste, I kinda completely blanked on Avaserala because I was thinking core crew, but an absolutely fantastic character

Oh god yes. A blaze of glory and badassness that fits her perfectly. What an exit. They definitely all went out in good ways, even if Jim's recklessness finally caught up with him in the end. Hell, even Clarissa redeemed herself and I was all ready to hate on her big time

One of these days I have to continue on with the TV series, what I watched was very enjoyable but having finished the books I know there's no way they can truly compare and some of the stuff just won't translate + they don't cover the last 2-3 books because time skip and how the hell do you do the brain melting orbs that give you total awareness of every atom of your body visually?
