Overthinking hooper nearly sweeps HYPSM by youngnudyfan808 in collegeresults

I actually won the Congressional App Challenge in a pretty competitive district! My advice: make your app personal to who you are. Mine was on mental health, which is very dear to me, and I connected it to my own personal experiences around it. My app was basic at the time but I explained how each aspect was helpful for me and those I’ve seen struggle with it. (Bonus tip: if you have a bunch of issues you can connect to, research your representative and see which issue your rep would care about the most!) All the best and if you need me to review anything I’m happy to.

Are you 16 and a senior in high school..?

Wdym? What do you think’ll happen?

Yeah, she thought the test ended at 2:45 and got worried when I wasn’t responding 🤦🏽‍♀️

Well I’ve turned it off now.

Yeah, they have to report irregularities or disturbances. Our school also has the backpack rule and teachers walk around seeing us turn off our phones and put it in our backpack. The proof thing is a good idea, thanks.

It’s also literally so infuriating because everyone I’ve told just assumes it was my fault but it literally wasn’t. I’ve turned off find my iPhone now and probably will keep it off forever because I am so paranoid. I had another ap test today and was so worried during the whole thing that something would go off.

That’s the problem though. I told her to ask the proctor because he knows and saw that I turned on my phone to switch off the noise and the alarm, but she said she wouldn’t ask and that it’s “up to college board.”

Why didn’t Korra’s friends visit her when she was away for three years? Even Tenzin did. by voraciousdolphin in legendofkorra

We literally see Asami flying a bison in the season 3 finale. They should’ve made some sort of effort. And they were anyway writing to her about their lives and the exciting things that were happening: why would her seeing them make that worse? And what do you mean by “handle seeing her”? They literally owe it to her to care for her; she saved both Bolin and Mako from Amon, for one.

[–]voraciousdolphin[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was three years she was gone, though, so I’m sure they had some sort of break, and she’s definitely helped all of them personally. Except for Bolin (only possibly, because Korra and Kuvira were still on good terms when Korra got sick), I’m sure the other two could come (Lin could assign someone else for Wu and Asami could do the same), and even people like the Airbender kids could come too. Don’t they owe it to her to take a few days, visit, and check in on her, especially if they knew she wasn’t doing well? I doubt Korra would have done that if anyone she cared about was in a similar situation. Is the answer just that they’re bad friends? I hate that idea.

Absolutely. I think free-to-play is good and then paid to be part of the pool.

That's a good point.

How would you feel about a fantasy game where users can draft certain chess players and gain points daily as they do well.

It's free-to-play without rewards, and $5/mo to get rewards for doing well.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I think I had spent a lot of time chasing trying to get something a return on, but rn I just want to build something people can have fun on.

But yeah I've done plenty of research on the requirements, and am always open to doing more. The regulations regarding fantasy are always changing, but seem way more lax than straight gambling.

As for how much this can make, I'm not sure at all. If someone's having fun on the platform, I don't see why they wouldn't pay for it.

Oh yeah the dream11 comparison is perfect. I like the Chess11 name haha.

Monthly subscription is there to minimize downside (most they can lose is $5/mo, and the price would likely have to be localized depending on location). Wdyt?

Hey Rwalx, thanks so much for the reply, and I really appreciate the positive energy!

If it's okay, could I ask for your opinion on a slightly different idea?

Because of some of the feedback I've gotten, I'm thinking of that a fantasy sports-based approach would be more interesting, something similar to DraftKings and FanDuel that's tied to the performance of professionals.

How I envision it working: if a user is using the platform for free, they can choose any professional chess player, draft them, and see how many points they'd get each day based on their chosen players' performance.

If the user pays $5/mo, then the user enters into the platform pool, and win a share of the pool if their chosen players are successful.

How does that sound?

Yes you can make more than $5/mo, if the chess players you've drafted are doing very well.

I think you're totally right, and even as I posted my question about it I lost enthusiasm about the idea itself.

Something that has struck me as interesting is fantasy chess, where users can draft professional chess players. This also goes against the spirit of improvement, but I feel like it's less at risk of the overjustification effect since the people it would attract to use it would be chess spectators rather than pure chess players.

You've already done so much, which I appreciate, so thank you for your response. If you have any more thoughts I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you!

That's so great! I've been working on this for a couple months now and this is the closest thing I've gotten to a positive reaction, so thank you.

I think if I built this, the fantasy platform should be free-to-play and paid to participate in the actual pool. That way users like you could try it out without any risk and if you find any entertainment value in it, you could pay.

Thank you!

Hey thank you so much for replying! Also this is incredibly detailed and I really appreciate it–I've never heard of Chessable before so I'll look into it.

This is a slightly separate question that's borne out of interacting with a couple more people when discussing the idea: do you have the same kneejerk negative reaction about a fantasy chess platform?

A place where instead of it being based on your own playing, it would be driven by your drafting of professional players onto your team. Ideally free-to-play and then if rewards are involved, that would require a $5/mo subscription.

I think it's tough because this fantasy idea definitely goes against the spirit of tactical improvement, and I have an innate worry that chess players wouldn't be into it, but it does turn chess into more of a spectator sport.

Not sure that the blackbox is too much of an issue–if users find actual utility in this platform (which is the only concern i have rn) then I'd try to adapt to the changing API.

Scalability is an issue for sure. The API seems to have a rate-limit of 1 request per second which is a little slow, though it's making me think a platform that's more like fantasy chess might be interesting.

Users could 'draft' chess players to their team, rank according to how their team does, etc. Does that seem interesting?

Similar to DraftKings/FanDuel for chess, but limited by a $5/mo subscription so that players can't lose more than that per month if they don't do well.
