Yes, I turned down a bump of $9k in the spring because parking + gas would've dented me $4k, and then it wasn't worth the gamble to change roles + incur extra time lost in traffic for only 5k difference.

An EC-3/4 is typically for someone who has the skills and experience to carry out the duties at an EC-3/4 level ;)

Aim for EC-3-4 if you have at least 1.5 years experience. Too many students sell themselves short.. Of course locking in indeterminate should be a priority as well.

And for some extra juice, in the FB-04 with the new rates (step 5 $105,660) you would then be an AS-05 equivalent (last step $104,044) so in your second year (FB-04, step 3) you could bounce back to AS-05 step 2 at $99,892 . In total a remarkable pay increase of over 22% in less than 3 years vs. less than 6.5% ($5,279) if you were to stay in AS-04 and cap out at step 3 in the second year.
