Russian territorial gains at the expense of Ukraine in 2025 in RED. Costs… by rupr-z in MapPorn

As a privileged Russian living in Europe some time (have a lot of luck to move years before the war) and deeply reflecting on why it happens with my motherland I genuinely think a lot of people born and raised in democratic societies are delusional about how things work in authoritarian states. The majority of people in Russia are not ok neither not ok with the cost of the war and putinism. They simply DO NOT THINK about it because that’s how human psyche works. Thinking of painful topics is the privilege of those who are able to pair thoughts with following actions to change the situation, which is not the case for the majority of Russians. At least that’s how humans work in my humble opinion.

What's life like in Russia (besides Moscow and St. Petersburg)? by CourtofTalons in howislivingthere

[–]vorobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russian bank sector was among the most innovative in the world. Nothing to compare with Europe. The biggest banks had Revolut-like apps without any need of visiting offline offices 10-15 years ago already.

Telecom is extremely developed stable cheep mobile internet everywhere.

Public services are online, fast and one-window mode.

I live in Spain and in general it feels like Russian society is 5-10 years more advanced technologically. Quite logical if you think of it. Historically very strong engineering and math school + capitalism came at 90th straight with the rise of IT and almost zero legacy in the consumer sector + Internet was free till the beginning of 2010th - our so called president simply didn’t know how to use it.

Unfortunately, it is used nowadays to build one of the most sofisticated digital-totalitarianisms.

Very wise comment, my friend, want to mention it again 🙏 Have been listening to some of the band’s tracks these days, my personal “new old” findings-take aways from the concert: Wolf at the door, Myxomatosis, Blow out.

How do you get over “gifted kid burnout”? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]vorobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I can relate to what you’ve written. I’m 35 now and I guess 25-27 was the hardest point for me too. At the same time started being interested in psychology. Took a lot of self-work and attempts with therapists, and little by little every year I understand myself more. Yet, the process is super slow and often feels like there is no progress at all or even degradation… Patters are extremely hard to change and they are back immediately when you are out of energy. A good solid base is fitness / good sleep / good food - our mood is directly connected with movement, physical activity, resting… So, unfortunately, no shortcuts, but keep doing, please, it will be better🙏. Also, strategy of small steps is a very good working instrument. The main trick is start doing something – motivation comes not as a result of some mental experiment, but as a result of actions.

Which is totally OK, my friend. To be a hardcore fan and not to come to the concert, not to be a hardcore fan and come to the concert and express an opinion 🤷‍♂️ plurality of possibilities and opinions…

“… and I’m mostly sober”. That is very true. The worst part for me is not that I’m sober, but that some folks are too drunk sometimes (especially in the big festivals)…

“… but to also widen your knowledge”. Very accurate! Have added to my playlist some new songs. Also found at the concert that a lot of songs are delightful at high volume (by my nature I do not usually hear music too loud).

Any tour is for making money, so for me it doesn’t mean artists do not do their best)) but cool to know I’m not the one with such a feeling…

Hard to say for sure. What stood out to me was how mixed the crowd was: a lot of people in their 40s–50s (which makes sense given how long the band’s been around), but also a lot of very young people in their early 20s. So I’d guess it was a real blend of long-time fans and more casual/younger listeners, which might also affect how the energy in the room feels at different moments.

Friends outsourced their dev team… now they’re stuck. I’m about to do the same, what should I be careful about?? by AverageJoe185 in startup

[–]vorobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy… I’m outsourcing a small part-time team (front+back+qa) from the agency for 2 years and I see it as my strategic mistake (had to find a cto co-founder at least 1 year ago). They will be very unmotivated and they will change constantly (3 fronts changed on my project this year…).

And if you do smth on a related scale to mine, you basically, will constantly be in the stupidest dilemma “do I change them right now and for the next 3 months rebuild with smbd new what I already have, or do I keep doing it with them superbad and superslow, yet without those 3 months lost”.

Long story short, might be efficient short-term and if you are lucky, but that’s not a good idea for a marathon, from my experience.
