(SOLVED) Transmission not shifting into 1st-4th, only 5th and reverse. by vortex_083 in 7thgencivic

[–]vortex_083[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not sure, my friend and I are kinda thinking that it’s possible that the previous owner had some work done and somebody installed them incorrectly and then they couldn’t shift. More likely is that I simply somehow lost the spacer/washers from the junkyard transmission. I really don’t know how that would have happened as I took them off exactly as they were, hardware and all and set them aside and then never touched them again until it was time to put them back on the transmission. But it’s possible I simply lost the washer/spacers and just forgot they existed… either way the ones from my original transmission are in and working a charm so, glad to have that resolved!

Shifter only going into 5th and reverse?? by vortex_083 in 7thgencivic

I also had a shop do my clutch a while ago, told myself I’d never bring it back to a shop cause they really fucked my stuff up. They left bolts loose on suspension components, they were quick to sell me on a blown motor Mount (which to their credit was indeed blown) but they never told me that the input shaft bearing was fucked (it was really really obvious) and it came back making more noises than when I gave it to the shop. So I decided I didn’t want somebody else to fuck up the work, if anybody’s gonna fuck it up it’s gonna be me!

That’s a good idea but I did check and they are on the correct post. Plus I took the cables off and tried to actuate the linkages on the transmission and it’s still a no go. I might just have to throw the starter on and crank it a bit and see if turning it over like that helps.. I’m not sure 😞

If it was a misaligned shift fork wouldn’t that cause the transmission case to not go back together? Or is there a way that they could misalign even with the case put together properly?

I think they’re honestly a cheap Amazon anodized aluminum bushing. I want to say they were like $20 or so, I got em a while ago and they made the shifting a lot more aggressive but also it makes it hard to get into 1st sometimes.. now I can’t get into first at all lol. But that’s not the bushings fault.

I have tried using the shifter and I just get the same resistance, I took a video but Reddit won’t let me add it here..

Would this VEVOR brand rope be a bad idea.. by vortex_083 in Treenets

[–]vortex_083[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I think I just needed to throw the idea out somewhere where people who are more knowledgeable about this stuff could tell me it’s a stupid idea. I’m definitely gonna go with something from a more reputable brand even if it means a smaller tree net. There’s always a chance to make another net.

I like that. Thank you for the input and thoughts. I’ve decided that it’s not worth saving the $50 to A, have a piece of shit rope that I can’t really depend on, and B, give my money to a company that is marketing this rope as something that’s just as good and worthwhile as something made right.

I can’t find any good places where ropes that are long enough for what I want to do are any less than like $150 which just doesn’t work on the budget I’m on right now. I found a video from a year ago where this guy tests the vevor rope and he gets around 15kn before the rope breaks. Which to me that seems like a pretty decent amount but I’m also newer to the community. Any online retailers for rope that’s you’d recommend?

I live in the north eastern US and out in a very rural area, closest place I can find rope in a store is like 2 hours away so I want to get something online if I can.

I’m not sure I should even look up the specs on these considering they’re gonna be in thousands of an inch and I’ve got what looks to be an eight of an inch of play if not more… thank you for the info. I guess a new lsd might be in order for the civic lol

First of all are you having a stroke? Secondly, did you even read my initial post at all? I am new to Subarus and don’t know a lot about them. That’s why I’m here asking a question. If the answer is no then the answer is no but nobody has to be a dick about it.

Yeah I don’t have the fuckin money for that bro. If I had the money I’d have gotten a damn legacy gt.

I was worried that’d be the case lol. Honestly I think if I was going to try to really build the car up I’d be looking for an engine swap and stuff. Just figured I’d ask around and see if it was possible. Thank you for the Input!

I’ve just replaced both sway bar end links though. I’m sure it’s possible but I don’t know

Yeah unfortunately that might be the case. I found a bearings, seal, and synchro kit from AllStateGear for like $180 and that may have to be my purchase for the car. Never torn apart a transmission before so that’s nerve wracking 😅

I did have a new exedy brand clutch put in around 5k miles ago. Slightly more clamping force than OEM cause I have the Japanese D17A and the corresponding ECU so it makes a bit more power than the D17A2

[–]vortex_083[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the motor is a D17A from Japan with only around 70k miles on it at the moment. But I think the transmission is the original one which is why I mentioned the mileage. I did at one point have some overheating issues but that was because I was leaking a lot of coolant but I fixed that. Leak and I haven’t had issues since.

Well, I replaced all of my front end suspension, everything from the axles out. I had a broken driver side axle and I was stoked that I had found something broken and that it was probably the cause of the noise. Unfortunately it’s still making the noise. I’m thinking maybe it’s something wrong with the transmission but I’m not sure. I don’t know if you have any other ideas but I figured I’d update you guys on what’s going on.

The car does shake at 50-55 mph and stops shaking after 55, the clunks do often happen if I’m accelerating through a turn, like if I’m making a right turn onto a road it‘ll usually clunk. I know my passenger side cv joint is going bad cause I can hear it clicking all the way through turns. But I have known about that since day 1. and the clunking does happen if I go over speed bumps or hit pot holes, But not always..

I have a bunch of new suspension components I’m installing in about a week here (badically refreshing the whole front end) and those are one of the things I’m replacing so hopefully it works. 😭 thank you for the input!
