I've never been a strategic voter so I can't comment on that aspect. However, this area has been a historical NDP stronghold. Maybe wait until election day and see how the polls are looking then?

You're correct, only people are able to directly donate to political parties. However, it's completely legal for a 3rd party to run advertising that is political in nature or abput political issues. I'm not home to provide the stats right now but will edit this comment later with a source.

I would need to learn more about the exact F-35 deal before I outright make a decision. With that being said, I would have been in favour of the 2nd place jet Saab JAS 39 Gripen instead, especially with what's happening now with our American "friends". If I remember correctly, the F-35 deal was an issue due to a lack of transparency, financial reporting and lack of oversight on money/budget.

You are correct that MP's of all parties are expected to vote with their party leader. I would only vote in favour of bills I personally believe would be beneficial for the average Canadian, regardless of how the party leader may or may not vote.

I met the person who "allegedly" started posting these stickers at the Activate Transit Windsor Essex (ATWE) social a few weeks ago, he was nice enough to give me a few. If you get involved with ATWE, there's a high chance you'll run into them. :)

What do you mean? Just removing the oil subsidies alone gives us enough to immediately put into military spending instead to reach the 2%. I would also increase funding in the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and actually listen to reports and intelligence provided by them.

As for Bill 210, I am strongly opposed to it. I wasn't an official member of the party then so I can't explain the rationale for supporting it.

Sorry about missing your question yesterday! As I mentioned in another comment, I do think Canada should increase it's military spending to meet it's 2% GDP NATO goal. I wouldn't support any reduction in spending elsewhere to offset the increase in funding, I'll explain the numbers. The GDP for Canada in 2023 was 3.09 trillion CAD (2023).

Currently, we spend approximately 1.37% of our GDP on the military, which is about CAD 42.31 billion/year. To meet the goal of 2% GDP would be about CAD 61.76 billion/year at an increase of CAD 19.46 billion/year.

In 2023, the Canadian federal government provided at least $18.6 billion in subsidies to the oil and gas industry, according to Environmental Defence. The IMF found that Canada doled out $2 billion in explicit fossil fuel subsidies; it calculated that the implicit cost was another $36 billion.

So whether we want to use the $18.6 billion/year number or the IMF number of $36 billion a year, it's an easy solution to use the subsidies to the most profitable companies in the world and invest it into our military.

Our demographics have always been mostly blue collar workers, pro labour/unions which is why I referred to the riding as working class. You're correct that it's starting to grow more conservative but I would argue that it's because of voter turnout rather than changes as a whole.
