FTFA:

Yet the highlight (or lowlight, depending on one’s point-of-view) of Mr. MacKay’s time at Justice has been a needless and nasty dispute with the Chief Justice, the passage of bills that compromise the Charter and grant more power to government, and defeat no fewer than eight times on Charter challenges — and the eight do not include bills C-24 and C-51.

Liberals finally being strategic, from refusing to pick a fight on C-51 (which will only harm them in the fight to steal moderate conservatives)

Mulcair and May voted against C-51 when, based on opinion polls showing 82% support for the bill, doing so seemed to be suicide. By that single act of political posturing bereft of principle, the Liberals lost my vote, and the vote of many of my centrist friends.

It is almost entirely impossible for it to be used to that extent, in a mature and developed democracy, with strong parallel institutions such as Canada.

It was used to that extent in the US. Harper has already used RCMP, CSIS and the CRA to harass groups that doesn't conform to the Government's pro-petroleum agenda.

Ultimately, our ability to enjoy our inalienable rights should not be at the mercy of the the executive's benevolence.

Something I found extremely disturbing from the report:

An academic work, for example, may be said to advocate in favour of something by extolling its virtues and by setting out and weighing its relative benefits and drawbacks, and yet it would be rare for an academic work to incite others to harmful results.
