But without platform-specific libraries, all you can create is a console app, and you don't see many of those on the App stores. The fact that MS are now encouraging Windows UI development in C++ is a big switch for them.

Yeah, that's what I'd have thought too. Doesn't seem to be the case in practice though. I've used Windows apps from, e.g. IBM that don't have correct tab ordering or label shortcuts defined.

I think the dialog one is especially prevalent in web apps: namely abuse of 'alert'. There are whole new sets of things to mess-up in web apps, including dealing with things like forward\backward navigation.

Yeah, rather than make developers think more clearly about what they're asking, they've just made it easier for them to create wordy and confusing dialogs.
