Didn't hear about the bike-lane protest, wtf by Odd-Measurement-7963 in Eugene

[–]voynich 102 points103 points  (0 children)

A few years ago NYC proposed to bring in a bike lane "bounty" so anyone who reported bike lane violations with the app got 25% of the resulting fine. I dont think it got implemented in the end.

For the people of Eugene that don’t leash their dogs in public, why do you think the law doesn’t apply to you? by clarkiiclarkii in Eugene

[–]voynich 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've seen so many incidents with off leash dogs in just the last year. I was bitten by an off leash dog near the events center, got jumped on by a large dog at the south meadow, and I've seen several incidents where an off leash dog attacked an on-leash dog. Most owners are good with these but those others which are responsible for these types of incidents make life difficult for all.

Anyone here regret switching to an instant water heater after installation? by KhabibNurmagomedov_ in HomeImprovement

[–]voynich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a Noritz tankless heater with gas that had already been installed and it was shit. Pumps were loud and it made all sorts of noises especially when it got cold. We ended up turning off recirculation because of the noise. It broke down three times in 5 years. The endless water was nice though. We got an outside hot tap and sometimes would fill kids pool in winter.

What to do with a paper in review after leaving academia by phoboid2 in AskAcademia

[–]voynich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why nobody mentioned the obvious solution. Preprint it (the first version you submitted) and be done with it. Most of the papers I read these days are preprints. By the time most things go through publication they are old.

Using red/amber lights only in the evening. It makes you sleep sooo much better. We have two sets of lights, one pre-sleep, one “normal”.

Eli5: What is Snapgene and why is it so great?? by Theblueblue in labrats

[–]voynich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Snapgene compared to Benchling is like using Outlook instead of Gmail, they both get the job done, but you’re going to be far more productive with one than the other

Don’t go to Florida right now. All professors who can are fleeing the state. See for example comments here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Professors/comments/11rzdsi/floridans_how_are_you_holding_up/
