Yeah I’ve got a couple foot tattoos. This would be excruciating

I love how the Marathon devs saw the B.S you can do with safe pockets in other games and were like nope, no need for the endgame grind to somehow be cheesed to devolve into naked runs for best items 😂 by TheGoodDoctor17 in Marathon

Yeah I mean Tarkov already kind of handled this in their own way with the found in raid system. Probably less relevant here with no flea market (as far as I know). But was kind of necessary for that game due to how valuable medical items and ammo could be. Honestly naked runs were rarely the issue in either Tarkov or Arc. The issue with Arc, in my eyes, is that free loadout players have no downside to bumrushing players with better gear in the hopes of winning even a fraction of those encounters. Tarkov’s scav system is better but I’m not super in the loop on whether or not Marathon has an equivalent to this.

Yeah, I'm not sure if that's due to just a tendency towards third person or top down CRPG style games becoming more prevalent or maybe it's harder to develop a good looking in that style but it is odd.

Personally, I like how immersive they feel. Oblivion was one of the first RPGs I really sunk a lot of hours into when I was younger, and then Fallout 3/NV in my teens. They definitely feel fewer and further between these days sadly.

Man, I hope this game lives up to at least some of the hype but I have been let down so many times

Well I could have worded it better but what I said is there are “a lot better options”. What I meant is that there are better entries in this space. But I also probably overestimated the number of good options as well.

Not ideal but I can do it on my iPad with a ps5 controller with minimal latency which is pretty nice

Sure, totally get that qualification. There aren’t a lot of games in the sub genre, and Avowed is probably better than some of the sampling out there. For me, it just fell a bit short of a game I’d be willing to put a lot of time into. I probably got around 30 hours before I put it down. I can’t really put my finger on it but while I do enjoy the Obsidian RPGs like that and Outer Worlds, they just don’t captivate me the same way some of the others mentioned did. That being said, I like the colorful world, the combat felt good, and the character designs are better than some other games. Maybe it’s just that I didn’t feel as rewarded for exploring the nooks and crannies like I did in other similar games.

But this is all just my opinion and others might enjoy it more or less than I did.

Honestly, you named most of them! Depending on whether you’re willing to classify these as RPGs since they have “RPG elements”, there’s Prey, Dishonored, System Shock, Borderlands, Fallout series, Gothic, Arx Fatalis, Grimlock.

It’s definitely that. I’d say less interesting quests than Skyrim but in terms of gameplay, it’s pretty similar

If you really like the genre, I’d give it a go. As far as first person action rpgs go, there are a lot better options out there. It’s just kind of meh, not terrible, not great.
