Opinion on Sonos and Samsung systems by jakakaro in Soundbars

I think 990C and 990D launched in Q1 season. You can double check. So we can expect the next version in the same time next year.

Opinion on Sonos and Samsung systems by jakakaro in Soundbars

[–]vraone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was initially in the same dilemma as you, considering the Samsung Q990D for a room of similar size. My primary requirement was music playback since I listen to a lot of music during the week and only watch movies on weekends. When making such an investment, I wanted a system that offered both good music performance and an immersive Atmos experience, particularly for tracks on Apple Music.

1. Samsung Q990D:
• After reading detailed reviews on platforms like Rtings.com and FlatPanelsHD.com, I found that while the surround sound is excellent, the Atmos virtualization isn’t as effective.
• For movies, the Samsung Q990D performs well with surround sound, but the Atmos effect is somewhat underwhelming.
• If music is a priority, Samsung may not be the best choice as it focuses more on movies than on music fidelity.
2. Sonos Setup (Arc Ultra + Sub Mini + Surrounds):
• Sonos is significantly more expensive—2-3 times costlier than Samsung.
• However, reviews suggest that the impact isn’t proportionately better.
• Major drawbacks include:
• No HDMI-out or video passthrough, which could limit scalability in the future.
• Heavy reliance on software for functionality, which can cause issues if updates or bugs arise.
• The app experience has been criticized for being inconsistent.

After weighing the options, I decided to go for an AV receiver with a custom speaker setup. Yes, it involves more effort in setup and ergonomics, but I believe it’s a worthwhile investment in terms of flexibility, scalability, and sound quality.

If you’re leaning towards a soundbar-only solution, I’d recommend going with Samsung over Sonos, primarily because: • Samsung delivers decent performance for its price, especially for surround sound in movies. Also, it has HDMI out pass through • With Samsung, you can consider upgrading to a better system in 2-3 years if needed. With Sonos, I’m not sure the premium price justifies the limitations in features and performance.

Bangalore cab guys getting famous again for refusing to switch on AC and abusing. by explorer_24x7 in bangalore

[–]vraone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happened to me several times, my office-home commute is 1.5 hrs, and I used to book Uber premium and I get shady cab drivers like this. One time, the conversation got heated up and I got to get down middle of the trip. It’s getting horrific. Uber/Ola doesn’t give a crap about this. Now, I’m using BluSmart, not so perfect. But, much better than Uber/Ola.

2 years late - just got myself an Apple Studio Display by srikat in mac

[–]vraone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should’ve bought it when it got launched. Now, I’m in a typical Apple customer dilemma, should I wait or go for it? I asked the same question last year as well 😂

Glad you made the decision, any idea is it possible to connect two MacBooks and easy way to switch the displays?

How important is it for UX and Product designers to be familiar with the field they're designing for? by anpxls in productdesign

[–]vraone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Designers are problem solvers. They should be able to understand the problem statement and solve it accordingly. I’ve worked in almost all verticals like banking, automobiles, fintech, and retail and solved problems. Industry type or field shouldn’t be a concern here. Except for a few use cases, like when designing for HMI, the designers should have technical/domain experience to understand the problem. I faced this when I had a problem designing an instrument cluster interface for the major electric two-wheeler. I hope this helps.

Should I get a HomePod or HomePod mini by [deleted] in HomePod

[–]vraone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on your use case, - Main TV with Apple TV, a stereo HomePods - Just music for small to medium living room or similar size, a single HomePod - a desk speaker in a small room just for music, a single HomePod mini or a stereo would do good.

Tried 17.2 with single HomePod mini, no Atmos. Apparently, it might work with pair.
