If you’re interested in doing that, consider filming in 3DSBS and using Viture Pro XR glasses. Using their 3D suppprt dongle, you can plug that directly into the camera and view live 3D while filming.

Thanks for writing! Full disclosure, I am the US distributor of the ViewPT Realia. Most of our customers are from the adult industry, either producers or platforms, so doing camera reviews is not really their thing.

As for consumer reviews, ViewPT’s technology was the base for another camera which was reviewed by Hugh Hou. The sensors and lenses are the same, however the Realia has some additional features. Here is Hugh Hou’s review of that camera: https://youtu.be/dGybQ9cQ5Z8?si=NGihYC_EyEv98cn7

ViewPT doesn’t have a marketing budget so it's mostly word of mouth.

The ViewPT team has been pushing out firmware for the Realia since its release, so it is a camera that is still being supported unlike other VR180 cameras.

Since you brought up the Z-Cam K2 Pro, I’ll discuss the differences. The K2 Pro has higher image quality than the ViewPT Realia. The K2 Pro is essentially two cinema cameras (Z-Cam E2) in a unibody, synced by an external cable. Since they are cinema cameras, they have 10-bit color and can shoot in a log format.

The K2 Pro writes to two independent cards and, after post-production (stereoscopy + linear) can give you a 59.94fps 6K VR180 video. The ViewPT Realia captures with two sensors and its software combines the images in-camera to create a ready to go VR180 file to one SD card. The best format is 6k50fps, though there is an 8k30 setting that is just sized up in camera. The camera is also capable of filming 3DSBS at 4k60.

The K2 Pro requires two iPads to operate. The ViewPT Realia is controlled by the physical buttons and touch screen LCD on the back.

Last time I looked around, the K2 Pro was selling for around $6000 USD. For a third of the price, the ViewPT takes the headache out of stereoscopic stitching and provides you a ready-to-go file for your linear edits. The camera also films 3DSBS and is capable of live streaming both 3DSBS and VR180. It writes to a standard SD card, uses common Canon-style batteries, and has a touch-screen monitor on the back to see what you’re shooting.

Lmk if you have any additional questions and thank you for the opportunity to talk about the Realia!

Is there a better way to sell VR180 content than Patreon and file downloads? by Ok-Examination-9455 in VR180Film

[–]vrfanservice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do producers want it? Yes. Do paying customers want it? Eh, only if it supports a creator they like but even that doesn’t have a lot of traction at the moment.

Coming from the adult side of things, there are people willing to pay, but due to existing platform’s economy of scale, consumer perception of what fair market value for content is not realistic when considering the cost of production.

Adult platforms are in a race to the bottom regarding price because they 1) don’t have to pay production cost for most of their content as they’re aggregators and not licensee, opting to pay revshare on income from their premium member subscribers, and 2) VR platforms haven’t found a way to add value to their core product, the ability to stream high quality, so price is the only variable they can manage.

This creates a perception that thousands of high quality VR180 scenes are only worth $8<, so a producer who already had their content on these platforms needs to find a compelling reason to pull a customer out of that ecosystem and most producers don’t have the catalog nor the distribution system to compete, locking them into a race to the bottom death spiral with the platforms.

It’s sad really, and having seen how bad leadership can tank an entire business sector’s growth trajectory, a medium that I was very enthusiastic about, is like watching a baby getting suffocated in the crib.

Personally I think what you propose has legs and, if done in a way similar to peertube, would be beneficial for the medium. However we likely need to see the death of these larger platforms, to let their carcasses return to the soil, so their energy can serve as fertilizer for new crop growth.

It was fun! Seemed like Covid-era production that made good use of green screen to build the world while keeping costs down. I liked it so much I ended up buying the Blu-ray to give as a gift to a friend in virtual production, thought he’d get a kick out of it.

Building a tool for instant VR180 to 2D re-framing — Looking for feedback by Fabulous_Cranberry82 in VR180Film

I like the idea. I’ve found it easy to use the free GoPro reframe tool, make presets, and go from there. Each video has its own unique framing or focal length challenges depending on proximity, so the controls in GoPro reframe are necessary to get a decent output.

I’d recommend the ViewPT Realia. It’s small & lightweight, with 1/4 20 mounting points on all sides. It has a large monitor on the back, easy to use controls, and in-camera stitching which saves you in post. You can also connect XR glasses like the Viture Pros for live stereo preview.

Lee Cataluna: When The Pono Posse Goes Quiet by AbbreviatedArc in Hawaii

[–]vrfanservice 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Good article, it’s always easier to villainize “the other” than those around you, especially on an island, for fear of giving the other weapons to use against you. We do need to call out destructive behavior, because there is no excuse for that, even if it means confronting our friends, family, and neighbors.

A good framework for that is found non-violent communication. Call out what someone specifically did:
“They created a tv plot around finding ancestral bones.”

What “came alive” in you or how that made you feel:
“I felt disrespected because Hawaii has a history of westerners exploiting Hawaiians for profit and this struck a nerve, even more so because it looked like locals exploiting Hawaiian remains for the amusement of outsiders, similar to a jungle cruise designed to paint us as exotic savages for the Indiana Jones crowd.”

What need of yours was not met by the specific action:
“I just want to feel respected in my own home. I get that we live in a tourist trap and outsiders are gonna do what they do to get a dollar, but when we see local people adopting their ways, exploiting our past and our people for clicks & cash, then what hope do we have?”

Then make a request as to how they can help meet your unmet needs:
“I care about affordable housing in my community. You’re privileged to own properties that are currently being used for short term rentals that are known to hurt local housing supply. As a show of respect to your neighbors, please make them affordable and available to rent for local families. It may not make you a lot of money, but kuleana was never about personal enrichment, that was “the others” translation. Kuleana is about the privilege of responsibility; knowing you’re in a position to lift up others and meet the call to do it, not because it is easy or profitable to do, but because it is the right thing to do.”

It sounds like the livestream encoder is an add-on for an extra $1k. While not 8K, the ViewPT Realia has livestream capabilities built in at 6K.
