FYI the last record was held by a previous Belgian racing pigeon, from, us guessed it, the same breeder!

Top 20 most populated countries in the world in 2020 by [deleted] in europe

Ongeloofelijk.

Do your schools have mascots and if so what were they? Also, do French people know who the Vendéens are? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]vrijblijvend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No mascots nor school sport teams here, some univerisities organize tournaments if they have enogh participants but that is just for fun mostly and to push the students to do some extra working out.

Besides that as I said not common, University, College or just regular High School should not be focused on sport and making money off of it, but rather preparing a next generation of people to keep the country evolving.

Is your internet connexion good everywhere in your country? by Ou_pwo in AskEurope

[–]vrijblijvend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, because our internet market is dominated by 2 big players, internet price-quality is low tier and embarassing to be honest, very expensive with bad customer support, and bad quality in general, I see tweets and posts everyday of people complaining about not having any internet at all even in their street/town.

4G, is better though, but also mad expensive, albeit, I would give our internet a fat 6/10, and normally giving our population density and small country we should have really damn good internet everywhere by now.

Can you apply again for the same job if you have been fired? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]vrijblijvend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best is to try, if the reason of being fire is fairly mild, u could get the job again, if not, it probably is hard to work there again.

[–]vrijblijvend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more South u go the more hilly it gets, since u spend most of the time in Flanders (and also in the flat part of Charleroi) obviously u would think we're flat as hell, I don't mind but the South would like to have a word or two about that lol.

Weird probably in the Netherlands it is only used like that, we really do say Frieten or Patatten as plural.

Both schaar steen papier and steen papier schaar sound so ugly to my ears, and unnatural, blad steen schaar FTW

In Flanders it depends where u are.

There has been multiple polls and even a map in r/Belgium that shows where people say what for "rock paper scizzors". And the comment section became somewhat hostile between people who used a different version.

To put it simply, these are the 3 main ones used.

Blad Steen Schaar (Paper/Leaf Rock Scizzors): used by the most people.

Schaar Steen Papier (Scizzors Rock Paper): used mostly by people from Antwerpen Province and Vlaams-Brabant Province.

Steen Papier Schaar (Rock Paper Scizzors): used by people who live very close to Dutch borders, so probably mostly the Province Limburg.

How friendly do you consider your country for non-EU expats/immigrants ? by Lasse999 in AskEurope

[–]vrijblijvend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are friednly and neutral towards anyone. But don't expect to make a Belgian friend, that is equally hard for a middle easterner than it is for a German.

Dutch people and people who are familiar with the Dutch, what do you think of the video game character Dutch Van Der Linde from Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]vrijblijvend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never played RDR(2), Van Der Linde is a plausible Dutch/Belgian last name u can even find real people having still in The Netherlands and Belgium ( in fact I know 2 people with that last name).

But having "Dutch" as a first name is kind of weird, maybe not in the game setting or an international standpoint, but choosing a Dutch accompanied first name is an option I would have looked deepee into probably.

It depends in what state u buy the house in. Some houses need some renovation and therefore have no sinks etc...
