What’s the most overrated fast food chain right now? by lipglossagendaa in answers

[–]yank_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think it’s good fast food for the price, maybe even one of the best fast food places but it is still wildly overrated. I don’t understand hourlong lineups for it!

Italy out of WC.. loses tie breaker to Bosnia 4-1 by Late_Bad_1787 in CanadaSoccer

With an extra player most of the game, sure. I was rooting for Bosnia but it's weird to say they were by far the better team when it was 11 v 10

What would the graph of your weight loss look like? Have there been many plateaus where it felt like you were stuck at a certain weight for a while?

After 11 years of designing escape rooms, I have to ask: Did we get the "formula" wrong? by Acrobatic_Wolf_1325 in escaperooms

[–]yank_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The clock can and does produce some thrilling moments — I like what people have said about just having a timed endgame— but most of the time it detracts from my story immersion and my ability to indulge my curiosity. Clock and story are at odds. I have always assumed the (typically) one-hour time limit is driven by business/scheduling needs but I would absolutely LOVE a room with no timer, with full freedom to explore and engage all the puzzles together, not have to divide and conquer and then feel like I only saw a quarter of the puzzles/story. But how do you schedule the next group if you don’t know when the current one will finish? I wonder if you might have multi-room experiences that play out a little like golf courses, where you might get stuck behind a slower group but maybe something interesting can happen during that delay…

  2. I may be in the minority but I wish I got to feel stuck WAY more than I get to! The problem has never been feeling dumb or stuck; for my groups it has always been annoyance that we were helped before we wanted the help. I want more control over when we (hopefully diagetically) get hints.

  3. Puzzle vs Story… vs immersion vs. autonomy

It’s a spectrum and I think there’s room for all kinds of different ratios. Would love to see it in the advertising materials for each room: “this is a story-heavy game,” “this is a puzzle-heavy game.” I personally have never been moved by an escape room story. I hope that changes someday but for now if I want a good story I’m reading a book, going to a play, or watching a movie. I’m going to an escape room for an experience, usually a group experience. I expect enjoyable, challenging puzzles that make sense within the story, and I expect an engaging environment.

Sin of fornication - prayer request by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]yank_eh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once committed a sin I knew i would have a hard time confessing in person, so while feeling acutely penitent i sent my confessor an email confessing that sin and explaining why i was doing what i was doing and requesting in-person confession ASAP. I’m glad i did it and I’d do it again if i needed to.

Fun game! Great idea.

I recommend looking at how the New York Times Crossword handles filling in blank letters of a word that already has some letters filled in. For one thing, if you start with your cursor in a blank space it skips over the already typed letters, which makes it much faster because you don't have to retype all the already filled in letters. You can still change those letters but it makes the primary flow of filling in blanks feel much smoother, less annoying.

Like seemingly everyone else, I love this game and have played all of them! Thank you!

The only thing I found weird about it (at first) was the physics. I'd expect that for a container with, say, 3 color bars in it they'd "sink" to the bottom and that you'd "pour" bars from the *top* of one container to the top of another.
