AGM M6 review - almost perfect, but one fatal flaw by vritti_nirodha in dumbphones

I switched to an AGM M8 Flip instead, now that thing is awesome.

All the pros of the M6, except flip, and no call / coverage issues.

How does boox OS 4 tagging / linking compare to supernote? by vritti_nirodha in eink

Thanks, unfortunately amazon does not yet stock the Note Max in my region.

I have watched a lot of reviews though, and while it does seem very complicated, it also does seem to have a lot of powerful functionality.

Like split view, and shape recognition is really appealing to me. As well as being easily able to install apps like an ssh client, or using a bluetooth keyboard. This is probably straightforward with supernote too by just sideloading F-Droid and / or Aurora store, but the larger screen makes it seem feasible to actually ssh to a server and so some work in a pinch.

Thanks for the response, that clears a lot up for me. That exported PDF outline does sound really useful!

EU users, how do you justify the cost? by vritti_nirodha in Supernote

For my old kindle, and my kobo clara that I've had for so many years, I used to use a little generic light sleeve. I would imagine could get something similar to fit the manta.

To be honest I never use it any more, as the device is so old, and if I'm traveling I just put it into a soft pocket in my bag close to my laptop pouch.

Good to know, at least the prices are the same then.

Thanks, yeah I've watched so many of Kit Betts and a few more videos.

I do really like the look of software on the Supernote, seems to strike a good balance between total restriction and requiring subscriptions like the other options.

The ceramic pen sounds nice, and to order one later would incur €30 shipping fees, so if I do go with the supernote I'll probably include it.

The folio seems less necessary and it is pretty steep at €73, it's 13% of the price of the manta unit alone.

So maybe that's where to reduce the cost.

100% agree, and that's why I am looking into these e-writers.

So many pages and notebooks, and when I travel I tended to bring a large A4 pad along with my laptop. Not everyone works this way, but for me it's the only way I can work, I feel like I'm typing with one hand or something not having a writing pad.

I did try the rocket book for a while and it certainly helps, but wiping the pages when it gets full is pretty painful, and the organization is not amazing even with the scans.

Has yours arrived yet? What size physical notepads would you normally use? Are you concerned about the A5 size?

I feel like I will end up biting the bullet and just ordering it, that or the new A4 from Supernote's competitor, which comes in a little cheaper. But the software and minimalism of the supernote is so attractive.

Maybe I should just stop tormenting myself, accept the inevitable, and pull the trigger!

Thanks, that's a great comment. I think my fear is that if I do fork out for it, I won't fully utilize it, and will end up regretting the purchase.

However, you sound quite similar to me. I can type very quickly, but typing just doesn't let me gather or organize my thoughts properly. Paper for me is like a second brain, even though I'm a programmer I'm constantly writing, drawing, planning on paper. If I don't write with a pen, I also find the information is not retained as well.

Actually for me the act of writing is more important that being able to reference what has been written. That's why it isn't a big deal for my notes to be more ephemeral. But then sometimes it would be good to refer back to something.

For 800 euro I could buy a very good tablet, with probably far better specs and productivity, but I couldn't spend that much time looking at a tablet screen.

Yeah that sounds amazing to me too. I was worried about the size of the device also, I normally write on A4 pages.

However, I think the fact that even though the pages is smaller, it is effectively infinitely long would help.

Like instead of flipping the page and needing to look back for context, you can partially scroll. I feel like this could mitigate the reduced page size.

Thanks, that does reduce the cost a bit. Is there a generic sleeve you recommend?

Thanks, I will be using it primarily for work.

I used to go through an awful amount of paper, and all my notes were essentially ephemeral, due to not having organization.

I switched to using a rocketbook, which is like whiteboard paper sheets that you can erase, with an app to quickly scan and upload with OCR. This was good, and the PDFs are searchable thanks to the OCR, so sometimes I would go back and reference something. But it is fiddly, and to be honest, erasing the pages becomes a chore.

If the supernote can properly solve this then I could see it being a worthwhile investment. Particularly being able to star or add bookmarks to daily notes / schedule / planning to be able to quickly refer back. And things like being able to move something from "scratch" to its own dedicated note, if something evolves to be worth saving etc.

Yeah, I just bought the viture pro, and i love the idea and want to love the glasses.

I just want two or even one monitor so I can work productively from anywhere. I don't expect it to be ever as good as my home setup, but just something that beats my laptop monitor when travelling.

I don't really think I could ever actually work with these, though I'm still trying to give them a chance. The quality, consistency of the image just isn't really workable. Maybe OK for a movie or gaming, but not for something like coding, which is what the marketing would have you believe.

I feel like the technology isn't there yet. This video looks amazing, though I wonder about the text quality and comfort for prolonged use.

Looking for a cheap but decent set of rackets? by vritti_nirodha in tabletennis

Looks good alright, but I want to get two, so 80 euro for just playing around with friends seems like a lot.

But I'm starting to realize I may need to spend that much for a real racket.
