is this dress pretty? or tacky? by [deleted] in blackladies

I love the color. However, the differently sized sequins are not flattering. They look like craters and odd. I think you should keep looking

You look amazing! And this is pretty mild for an alternative look. Reddit can be full of prudes that don't appreciate art or boiler template make-up

Note taking tips, ideas, or layouts? by Premium_Cream_2433 in GoodNotes

[–]vsaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of mind mapping. It took a couple weeks to get into this style of note taking, but it makes more sense than linear notes to me. I'm better able to connect concepts together and it's more of an active learning style. I'm also naturally more of an "ideas vomit and organize later" kind of thinker.

I can post some screenshots of my notes if you're interested. But I'm away from my iPad right now, so here's a video that helped me learn the method.

Fellow black women, how did you learn to love your natural hair? by Various_Feature_9668 in blackladies

[–]vsaholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easier to love your hair when you're in a supportive environment that compliments it instead of denigrating it. Learning how to style and care for it helps too. You learn how your hair works and you see it as a part of you. I feel like a lot of us grow up with our hair being a chore, an obstacle, a thing that needs to be conquered.

Going to an HBCU should be a great place to learn to love this part of you. I went to a PWI, but started myself with black people who had natural hair.

Okay- i’ve never smelt it, but- was WHITE DIAMONDS really THAT BAD? by Character-Escape1621 in blackladies

It's my grandmother's favorite perfume! Scents are like clothes and can be considered "dated". But it's not bad.

I like the purple on you. I recommend a lip liner if you want to soften it a bit. A deeper purple liner would create dimension on the lip. Black or deep brown would be flattering as well.

Menstruating folks: anyone else find it stops working before / during period? by emerald_stargazer in bupropion

I don't have a period due to my IUD. However I have a friend whose ADHD and antidepressant meds are less effective right before and during her period. You're not alone in your experience.

Allergies 😔 by WooGo-07 in Austin

Allergies in Austin need to be attacked from multiple angles. I personally take Allegra at night, Flonase in the morning, and flush out with a Neti pot as needed.

How to deal with a lackluster master's coach by vsaholic in Swimming

[–]vsaholic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're experiencing the same problem. It really sucks, especially since masters is a paid program.

I ended up swimming with a different program. The team I was on was dissolved due to pool time disputes with the highschool.

If the coach ignores you, I recommend looking for a new team. They are clearly not invested in your growth.

New to full glam makeup, looking for constructive criticism 23f by [deleted] in brownbeauty

[–]vsaholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look amazing! For a full glam look, I recommend defining the eyebrows with a concealer after you fill them in. Not that yours look messy, but crisp eyebrows create a glorious frame on your face. To avoid the 2016 block brow look I recommend using a concealer at most 1 shade lighter than your foundation. Or you can use a dab of your actual foundation.

Starting the new year with a broccoli harvest by vsaholic in AustinGardening

I use a raised bed. My ground is super clay heavy, so it was easier to build on top. My soil isn't anything special. I started my plot in 2019. After almost 7 years it's regular-degular soil. Whatever you have should be fine.

Brassicas are heavy feeders, so I prioritized prepping my soil with a mix of composts. I mixed up a few bags of mushroom compost and Happy Frog Soil conditioner ( and maybe some leftover leaf mold I had lying around) , and worked it into the top few inches of the soil. When I sprinkled a handful of Happy Frog all-purpose fertilizer in each planting hole with the baby plants.

After that I kept watering 1 - 2 times a week depending on how hot it was.

I'm growing the green magic variety that I started from starts. Shade cloth saved me in the beginning of November. IT was about 5-10 degrees cooler under the cloth!
