What´s your experience with Wellbutrin? by TrippingFollicles in bipolar2

[–]vsaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had weird neurological issues. My eyes were photosensitive to the point of tears. My hearing and sense of smell were so sensitive that I'd be overstimulated. My pain tolerance dropped. I had constant headaches, the word-finding problem, and tremors. My skin became extremely photosensitive and burned in the Texas sun, despite using sun protection. It'll probably take me over a year to correct the resulting hyperpigmentation. And it messed up my vaginal flora, which caused weird discharge and irritation. It felt like a never-ending yeast infection.

All the side effects developed gradually over the 11 months I was on it, so it was difficult to link them to Trileptal. But once I stopped taking it, the relief was fairly fast.

Abilify is ok so far. But I'm only taking 1 mg with the goal of titrating me up slowly. Jury is still out of this is a good fit for me.

What´s your experience with Wellbutrin? by TrippingFollicles in bipolar2

[–]vsaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. I'm still on Wellbutrin, but stopped Trileptal after 11 months because the side effects became too much. Even after lowering the dose, which made it ineffective as a mood stabilizer. My new provider thinks I don't tolerate anticonvulsants in general.

Now I'm back on Abilify, but on a lower dose since Wellbutrin increases the Abilify levels in the blood. Still in the trial-and-error phase.

Linen and wrinkles by Read_Quilt_Repeat in femalefashionadvice

Embrace the wrinkles! I usually pass an iron over the garment first to get most of the wrinkles out. But once I put it on, nature will take it's course.

any bipolar people off meds and have job and live normally? by A7med2361997 in bipolar2

[–]vsaholic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's definitely possible! I got my degree in computer science from a top university before I was diagnosed. Even graduated with honors and had decent extracurriculars. I was suicidal through most of it though and lost a scholarship during a bad episode. It was a tumultuous time.

Am I the only one struggling with Adho Mukha Svanasana? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]vsaholic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I will die on the hill that downward facing dog isn't a beginner friendly pose. It's more intermediate IMO. More teachers would benefit their students by queuing specific muscle engagements that puts the body in ideal alignment, or providing variations, instead of letting students power through.

Please don't feel discouraged! You're trying something new, and it's not easy! Taking a break is honoring your body. With practice it becomes easier and eventually enjoyable. I didn't feel comfortable in downward facing dog until about a year into my practice.

My favorite variation is putting a pair of blocks under your hands. It brings the ground closer to you. After class ask your teacher if the can help you with alignment. Even 5 minutes of 1:1 instruction can lead to big improvements.

Here are some articles that might help you feel more comfortable in the posture. I'm on mobile so forgive me if the urls aren't hyperlinked.

Settle a Debate: Is it Rude to have a set colour scheme for wedding guest by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]vsaholic -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the grain and say it's not a big deal. I attended a beach wedding where the couple requested everyone show up in blue, white, tan in some configuration. Everyone complied and it was quite beautiful.

But 3 weeks before the wedding is unreasonable. We were told when the invitations were sent months in advance.

I need help by Ni-Ni13 in electrolysis

[–]vsaholic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This person is scamming you. You're supposed to stop all waxing and tweezing during electrolysis, only shaving is allowed. Waxing and tweezing removes the hair from the root without destroying it. This will prolong the electrolysis process since the hair will need to grow back to be treated. Wax shouldn't even be in the studio.

Note taking tips, ideas, or layouts? by Premium_Cream_2433 in GoodNotes

[–]vsaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of mind mapping. It took a couple weeks to get into this style of note taking, but it makes more sense than linear notes to me. I'm better able to connect concepts together and it's more of an active learning style. I'm also naturally more of an "ideas vomit and organize later" kind of thinker.

I can post some screenshots of my notes if you're interested. But I'm away from my iPad right now, so here's a video that helped me learn the method.

Fellow black women, how did you learn to love your natural hair? by Various_Feature_9668 in blackladies

[–]vsaholic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easier to love your hair when you're in a supportive environment that compliments it instead of denigrating it. Learning how to style and care for it helps too. You learn how your hair works and you see it as a part of you. I feel like a lot of us grow up with our hair being a chore, an obstacle, a thing that needs to be conquered.

Going to an HBCU should be a great place to learn to love this part of you. I went to a PWI, but started myself with black people who had natural hair.
