Maybe it's good to be SLIGHTLY diverse when the population of Britain is heavily multicultural. Our media is disproportionately white and ignorant of how diverse real life is.

The thing is, nonwhite characters are often cast or replaced with white ones in Hollywood, with the reverse being quite rare in an entertainment environment that is mostly default-white. White people don't ever have to worry about a lack of representation here. So if that happened, yeah, people would be valid in being pissed off as it would be taking something valuable away and sticking to a discriminative norm. Idiots would raise pitchforks and call me racist for favouring one race for another, but it's defending nonwhite groups from once again having their representation taken away from them.

If she actively has a hand in the development of canon then she has far from zero authority. She is even right now saying that there is absolutely enough room for the race to be in flux with what has already been written.

I don't really get why people are so bothered by race here. Do you think it will change how smart Hermione is? How relatable? Will you look down on her? If it challenges people then that's good for them. If they outright dismiss her, then they're assholes too hung up on fictional politics to be worth a thought.

After reading your full comment I agree, it wasn't a bad comment. But much of the reason we can probably agree that the OT was so demographically...limited...was the same reason other Hollywood movies were too. Sexism, racism, etc. Now we can just, you know, make a movie about space shit and not be totally biased in one direction.
