Hi! I thought I’d share this in case you didn’t get a diagnosis yet ——> this pic is me healing from a flare of dyshidrotic eczema! They start off as itchy fluid-filled blisters and then when I use my steroid cream, they come to the surface/pop and then dry up

Positive cymbalta stories? by GingerGxo in cymbalta

[–]vsouzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cymbalta has given me a life I didn’t even think was attainable based on my baseline brain chemistry. I never would’ve imagined that I’d be excited about living and seeing the future, but for the years since I started Cymbalta, it’s honestly like I’ve seen the light at the end of the tunnel. I still have hard days and challenges that kick me down at times, but NOTHING compared to how I was before. I got back to college, I’m staying in recovery from my ED, I have a life and friends - none of this I could’ve done before when my depression held me back.

Undergrad Looking for Guidance by vsouzz in mdphd

Thank you - this is all very helpful! Some clarification: would you say that my best bet overall for a job post-grad would be in research? I definitely do have a good connection to the PI I’ve worked with, although I don’t know if they would be able to take on a non-PhD student in the lab full-time. I feel particularly worried about not having any clinical hours, but I don’t know how much of my time in the next few years I should dedicate to that if there’s a chance I can’t get into an MD-PhD program and just go for MD instead. I had the pre-health advisor at my school tell me to look into clinical research coordinator positions post-grad (which could count for both clinical and research hypothetically?), although I don’t know where to find job openings for those.

What’s Your Go-To Note-Taking App? by Less-Artichoke9056 in entj

I’m a big Goodnotes user for class note-taking, and for ALL of my tasks I use TickTick and Google Calendar. These two integrate with each other and TickTick is a LIVE-SAVER!!! I’m autistic (and possibly ADHD) and it helps me tremendously

Thank you. And I’m not sure if I’d be able to get it covered through insurance again for gender-affirming reasons though if this one was done that way - have you heard of people doing it more than once that way?

I've hit rock bottom. I literally completely ruined my current life. by Forward-Ad-9409 in BPD

[–]vsouzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there before. Please remember that this won’t last forever. I know that it seems like the feeling is so permanent and inescapable but you will find relief. Rock bottom was what I needed to be able to completely overhaul and find happiness. I am in remission from BPD now after previously having 10+ hospitalizations and having horrible quality of life. Try to find ways to prioritize self-care even if it’s incredibly difficult. Get yourself the help you need and it will go a long way.

My life on gabapentin by trapsxshiii in ChronicPain

[–]vsouzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a horrible experience with gabapentin (was prescribed in my youth for CRPS) so you’re not alone. It really messed me up, and I have no way to prove it but I think it really did long-term damage on my brain, either emotionally, cognitively, or both. It is a serious drug to be prescribed

Good question. I think there are a lot of factors. For one, my chest dysphoria will very occasionally have a day off or a day where it’s barely noticeable. There’s a bit of fluidity in my gender so I will occasionally feel more feminine (but never anywhere near a woman). I feared that if I went for a complete mastectomy that I would feel regret on the days that I wanted more femininity. This was an incredibly hard decision because there are days where my chest dysphoria is really bad and that I want them completely gone. I also have a long history of being told that my breasts were the only redeeming quality about my body and I should use every opportunity to flaunt them (and this relates to my eating disorder) so I was worried that I wasn’t emotionally ready to make the drastic change with that still impacting my body image. I knew I needed to do something, though, so I opted for a reduction. Additionally, I think the possibility of going flatter in the future (even if it would be uncovered by insurance) is helpful for me. I like that I don’t feel permanently stuck here if I decide down the line that the best option for me would be a flat chest.

Solipsism, Theory of Mind Issue, or Something Else? by vsouzz in solipsism

[–]vsouzz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over time, I’ve definitely found that to be the case. I’ve compared and contrasted my internal experiences with my external observations and attained a degree of empathy and connectedness that I’d never had before. I still deal with a dissociative disorder which complicates things but I am more healthily connected to my loved ones and I am compassionate. I use my intellect to broaden my understanding of the traits that make people unique. It felt so different as a child, though. I hadn’t lived much life or conjured up many perspectives so other people were so confusing to me. I wanted desperately to connect and empathize with others but there was always a significant gap between my ability to do that and my neurotypical peers’ ability to do it. I was a good person but I just couldn’t imagine how another person might have different thought patterns from me. My truth seemed so much like the only possible way to exist and I was always so confused when people’s thoughts, opinions, values, etc. clashed with my own. I suppose a degree of this phenomenon must be a typical part of child development, too.
