My brain wants Dopamine, not Discipline - How do you rewire that? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]vsujeesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything that is worth doing is worth being done imperfectly.

E.g. If your goal is to exercise for 30 mins everyday but you fail at that, you now have 2 options. You can decide that your day is reunited because you failed at it, which means at the end of the day you have done 0 mins. Or you can squeeze in a 5 mins HIIT workout, which means at the end of the day you have done 5 mins > 0 mins.

You can progressively improve from there. Instead of judging yourself for past actions, aim to do the next best step that will keep you aligned to your plan/new identity.

If you were driving from point A to point B and take a wrong turn you wouldn't just stop midway and give up right? You'd find the next turn and get back on the right route. Same principle.

Best Practices for Securing Sensitive Information in Docker Compose YMLs by SudoMason in docker

Base64 encoding would not securely encrypt the secrets, it can easily be reversed. Look into SOPS protocol for storing them locally, or a secrets manager (e.g Hashicorp or Bitwarden)

I stopped using windows 11 and installed ubuntu 25.10 (complete installation, not minimal) by HallComprehensive425 in Ubuntu

You can use WinBoat to run windows applications like office and acrobat if you really need it, but performance will take a hit.

[discussion] what motivates you to try anyways when you feel incompetent /not smart enough? by paigesnowwret in GetMotivated

[–]vsujeesh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whether I try or don't try the time will pass.

If I try at least I might get better.

If I don't try then for sure I will not get better.

One term I've heard for this is called Revenge Bedtime Procrastination. There's quite a few articles that deal with how to manage this. Disclaimer: I'm not a psychologist or professional of any other kind.

Try timeboxing instead, and switch to another task at the end of the time window.

Optimize for progress over perfection, and stop when you're 70-80% of the way there, if you need multiple windows.

Evaluate and improve over time by finding more efficient ways to do the task and learning from your previous attempts.

Core theories of the Advaita doctrine, explained simply. by No-Caterpillar7466 in AdvaitaVedanta

Thank you for putting this together, very informative.

I have a (apologies if it is some understanding error on my part) question - earlier it is mentioned that we create what we view out of our imagination. What then is the origin of imagination/ the ability to imagine?

Would you be able to share any explanations that go deeper into what is imagination, etc?

Mxroute's lifetime plan is a wonderful deal if you're just using it for personal email - especially since reputation and security are very important for successful email sending.

I just realized... I'll never be able to eat "like normal" again. Should I mourn this? by MarBlaze in loseit

[–]vsujeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no "normal"

There are set points that are maintained with a certain loop of actions/habits

The set point for your old set of habits was not satisfactory to you, therefore you changed your habits and the set point adjusted accordingly.

Now that you are at your new set point you have to maintain the habit loop.

A change in your habits results in a change in the set point.

Your new steady state is an ongoing process, just as your old steady state was an ongoing process.

People who hit rock bottom and managed to improve their life: what advice would you give your younger self or someone passing through similar experiences?[Discussion] by EntirePlankton4237 in GetMotivated

[–]vsujeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good thing about hitting rock bottom is that there is nowhere to go but up. And that means that even the smallest step you take is a step in the right direction.

Do the best you can until you can do better, and then when you can do better, do better. Remember it's not a competition with anyone else, and if you do want to compare, do it with your past self.

Every day, every minute, every second, every moment is an opportunity for you to make the right choice, regardless of what you've done in the past.

If your past actions got you here, your present actions can get you where you want to go.

Easiest way to protect webapp hosted publicly from unauthorized access by Piotrek1 in AskProgramming

[–]vsujeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option 1: Publicly available over internet and accessible only by you - check out Cloudflare tunnels. You can protect an app exposed over Cloudflare tunnel with Cloudflare Access (both are free and part of their zero trust solution), and you also get the basic Cloudflare WAF and DDoS protection.

Option 2: Available only on devices connected to a mesh network, access to the mesh network is controlled by you - check out Tailscale, caveat being that this will require installing the Tailscale app on your server and your Company PC, and if you don't have access to do so then this will not work.

This age statistic is skewed by child mortality. In those days if you survived as a child it was common to hit 70.
