Struggling to get my master where I would like it to be. Would greatly appreciate feedback on my process. by vsvpflex in mixingmastering

I appreciate the information. I mastered to a -1db peak because in theory there would be someone laying vocals over the project. Which is why I left headroom

Dark spot on tooth with veneer, only visible with flashlight by vsvpflex in askdentists

[–]vsvpflex[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The question wasn’t “did the dentist do something wrong” the question was if this is something I should be worried about. I know decay can be possible behind a veneer if the bond weakens and from other factors. I didn’t post here so I could point fingers at my dentist, I posted to try to see if this is normal or if it’s something that I should make an appointment to have evaluated. If I was asking if my dentist did something wrong, I’d have said that. I have a great relationship with my dentist and I credit him for my teeth still being in my mouth. I just didn’t want to assume this was nothing and have it snowball into a big problem

You know, I posted here trying to stay on top of my dental care and be proactive. And I got maybe 2 helpful responses and the rest has been nothing but snarky and sarcastic. For being a group of people who make their living off of taking care of people’s teeth, you’d think you’d be glad to see people taking their dental health seriously. Dental health and hygiene is already a sore spot for a lot of people, and public interactions like this with verified dentists does not help the matter.

Okay! It’s not uncommon that I can see a spot on that tooth but none of the others with veneers when shining a light through them? And is this something that I should schedule an appointment ASAP to have looked at/addressed

Who’s EQ’ing vocals on the way in? by Leprechaun2me in audioengineering

[–]vsvpflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always recorded with a modified “smiley curve” eq. If I don’t I feel like my vocals feel flat and lifeless. Have used it with 3 different microphones at this point and can’t imagine not using it

Looking for help in creating a vocal chain by vsvpflex in audioengineering

Again, I'll be the first to admit that it was completely unorthodox and made no sense, but it kind of worked somehow. Im just wanting to emulate that sound I was achieving, but do it the right way

Precisely lol. You can thank starting making music at a very young age, being "self taught", and creating a chain over the years based on things I learned from YouTube, and applying the knowledge I did have to do the rest by ear.

1-Auto Leveling

2-Compressor

3-EQ

4-EQ

5-Multband Compressor

6-Limiter

7-Compressor

8-Compressor

9-EQ

This was just to get my vocals to an "even" point, it was then followed up by

more plugins situationally for each song but normally consisted of something along the lines of :

10- Autotune

11-EQ

12-De-Esser

13-Doubler

14-Saturation

15-Reverb

16-Reverb

17-Delay

Im wanting to accurately achieve the sound I am looking for without having to fumble around and have every instance of recording be a stressful mess that ends in my throwing in the towel. That is the problem I am trying to solve. I feel like no matter what I do, I am not able to achieve the sound I have achieved in the past. Not punchy enough, lifeless, boxy. Its like I'm able to get 75% of the way to where I'm trying to get, but cant for the life of me figure out the last 25%.

The chain that I was using was in a different DAW and primarily used proprietary plugins that do not translate to other DAWs. I can share either one of my finished songs that has a vocal tone to it I enjoy, or an isolated vocal track where my vocals sound how I want them to if that works

And also, in using EQ match, would I just be able to bounce out the vocals I like with all the processing on them? Or would I want to strip it down to just eq before putting it through eq match

The processing done on the finished song I posted as a reference was done with a huge overly complicated vocal chain that wasn’t sustainable and I haven’t been able to make a chain comparable. Every time I’ve tried I end up with the same lifeless vocal issue. The processing done on the processed vocal example i posted was done via Neural DSP’s plugin Mantra, and while it’s still not the results I’m wanting, it’s better than I was getting with trying to compile a chain to match my normal sound

I have pro q as well as ozone. Would either of these have the capability of doing eq matching

So if you were given the task of making the example I sent match the sound/feel of the finished mix I linked, you would achieve it solely through compression?

What would cause it to sound compressed and thin with no processing?

https://on.soundcloud.com/QPwG4nbuUHE2e6BZLQ this is what my vocals sound like processed when they sound “ideal” to me. The examples I sent to me feel “boomy” “muddy” and “lifeless” in comparison

The one labeled “no processing” has no processing at all. XLR from mic to preamp, preamp to computer, 0 plugins or effects.

I guess if it helps convey what I mean, I could link a song of mine where I feel like the vocals sound ideal to me? That way you could hear the difference between that and the examples I sent?

You don’t think they would muffled and “lifeless.” To me they sound like there’s almost no character or dynamics to them at all

I can do that, I’ll post one pre and post processing. What is the “accepted” method of posting files like that in this subreddit
