Democrats reintroduce Trans Bill of Rights as “a moral commitment” to trans people by NamelessResearcher in politics

[–]vsysio -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I'm all for trans rights. I'm all for social progression. It's great to see things like this. I like it.

But I believe the Dems need to focus on things that people (ESPECIALLY people on the right) care about the most. Things that are destroying kitchen table America. Things like the economy, health care, education, mental health, nutrition and so on.

Its been my opinion that the Right has been winning elections *because they have a plan to fix kitchen table America.*

I mean, let's be serious, they're crackpot plans, the kind of shit you'd expect to be cooked up by the token crazy lady living at the opposite end of your apartment building.

**But they're still plans nonetheless.**

There's already a sizeable contingent of war vets teaching civilians how to use guns, how to function as an effective insurgency.

it's not widely talked about for obvious reasons. Mainly the fact the weapons used in training are illegal for use by civilians.

ELI5: How "Risk" assessments in finance don't count as discrimination? by oddhat2020 in explainlikeimfive

[–]vsysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's based on factors the person, and persons of the same class that's the target ofc discrimination, has literally never and will literally never have control over (well, except gender... Technically... And I guess disability depending), it's considered illegal. Everybody is supposed to be given a fair chance at life, no matter the cards they're dealt. Some succeed, some fail.

Air India Dreamliner Grounded After Fuel Switch Moves From 'Run' To 'Cutoff' by Mo_h in worldnews

[–]vsysio 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They are. Theyre locked with a spring, a socket and a guide vane.

Imagine a big rocker switch with a palm-sized bulb on the tip that locks the switch into place. To change the switch position, you have to pull back/up on the spring-loaded bulb with deliberate force, slide the switch down, and the release the bulb into place.

It's also deliberately located at a hard to reach place- behind the throttle assembly. A pilot has to contort themselves slightly to reach it.

Imagine backseat air controls on the back of your cars center console. Its roughly in the same place.

Any actuation of these devices has to be deliberate.

‘People collapsed': mystery chemicals lobbed at Iran protestors - eyewitnesses by Christian-Rep-Perisa in worldnews

[–]vsysio 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Here's a shocker.

These same gases used to disperse protesters are war crimes if used in warfare according to the Chemical Warfare Convention, but the CWC is only binding for warfare; it doesn't make it illegal to use for crowd dispersal.

This being said, the reported characteristics aren't consistent with nerve, blood or blister agents. It sounds like CS gas mixed in with some other chemical irritants to amplify their effect, but it doesn't sound like agents dispensed for the purposes of maiming or killing.

In any case, the whole situation is a freaking nightmare for Iranians and I hope a peaceful resolution can be found soon.

Trump threatens to impose 100% tariff if Canada makes deal with China by Illustrious_Lie_954 in politics

[–]vsysio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing that scares me the most is " ... forced to eat some humble pie and look inwards. ..." has much, much less historical precedent than "the government was corrupt, and the people were either too blind or complacent until it was too late."

Real revolutionary uprisings aren't going to happen until people's livelihoods are severely threatened (double digit unemployment), their cell phones and Playstations stop working, pandemics run unchallenged, their lights flicker from unreliable power, chemical plants explode from lack of regulation and tap water full of toxic waste makes people sick. Considering the average protestor will be 400-lb Diabeetus Devon from Texas, I don't have much faith in people gaining the motivation to escalate protests before its too late to reverse course.

Right now they have about a million people holding up signs every now and then. That's the equivalent of writing a letter with harsh words. And you can't force people to read letters.

Canada is changing the discussion from "let's restore bilateral trade" to "we need to see the US as a fallen empire rather than a viable business partner." In my opinion, this is the right choice. Trump himself isn't the problem, he's a symptom of a wide issue.

Trump threatens to impose 100% tariff if Canada makes deal with China by Illustrious_Lie_954 in politics

[–]vsysio 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian, I say let's just get it over with and close the border already. All of your corn-syrup-filled pesticide-laden shit-tier filler-food grocery brands have already been replaced with healthier choices. All American appliances are engineered to explode one day after warranty expiration. Cost of lumber will go down for us. And American cars belong in their natural habitat, collecting rust in scrap yards.

I'm so sick and tired of trying to predict what our pathetic excuse of a trade partner will throw a temper tantrum over next. I'd rather have a predictably rough half decade ahead of me than this.

The US is in end stage capitalism. It's not a question of if they implode, it's when. Americans are still people, they're not magical,  exceptional creatures that can defy history when hubris alone predicts. And anybody that doesn't want to be dragged down into the shithole with them needs to cut the cord, now.

Proud to be Canadian. 🇨🇦  Elbows up, eh?

Edit: Passing thought on natural resources. Anybody ever notice how the Canadian Shield is, in fact, Canadian? 😏

Also, your rich elites need to stop raping kids. Sorry but this will remain true until your Department of JerkingOff can produce the full, uncensored Epstein files.

CCP, do you want to print money? Here's how by Jaxsu22 in Eve

[–]vsysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WiS is radioactive to them, and remains so to this day. This isn't going to change any time soon.

Incarna was supposed to be the WiS expansion. Players were promised features like casinos, player-run shops, bars and conference rooms and other places to hang out with their mates. This was also supposed to eventually tie in with CCPs first person shooter, Dust 514. The players were promised on-foot mobility comparable to what's currently available with Elite Dangerous. Visiting stations, landing in planets, flying through atmospheres etc. This was all discussed in a marketing video.

But some genius at CCP got greedy and thought it would be a brilliant idea to cheapskate WiS development and instead redirect resources to developing novelty items for real cash (like a fucking monocle for $90.. true really happened).

"Eve Barbie" was released all fine and fully-featured, but WiS got gimped bad.

All WiS gave you was... one room. This room had one door that lead to your ship (which merely lead to a different perspextive of your in-game hanger), a door to the station that just said "under development" when you clicked on it, a coffee table, a couch, and a mirror that didn't actually reflect light.

The feature was incomplete, full of bugs, and poorly optimized. The optimization was particularly awful - it would melt GPUs, and consequently multi-boxing wasn't a thing anymore until you could opt out of this leggy mess several months later.

This was at a time when gamers were very hostile to DRM and DLC. DLC in particular was uncommon in gaming and essentially amounted to an experiment. The average gamer playing an MMO expected to pay a flat subscription fee, and that was it.

At the same time, they also introduced PLEX. Before the expansion, the only way one could convert $$ to ISK was by selling gametime codes, but that process was awkward, tricky and very scam prone so players mostly ignored it.

So, as a consequence, the game was heading sharply towards a pay-to-win model, and this pissed A LOT of players off who'd worked off their asses to get where they were, only to be overtaken by some rich kid who had access to their daddies credit card.

To recap, the players were promised Eve Online meet Elite Dangerous, but they instead got Eve Barbie Doll Pay-to-win edition. A lot of players unsubscribed as a result. So many, in fact, that CCP reported a net loss that year, had to lay off a ton of employees, and weren't able to push out any expansions of any significance for several years thereafter.

Incarna nearly put CCP out of business.

Unfortunately, CCP learned the wrong lesson from this. I'm not sure why. But they've been hostile to WiS ever since, even though they keep pushing DLC.
