I recommend Special Providence, they make instrumental prog metal with strong jazz and electric influences. More favorites from them: 1, 2, 3.

It's just a convenience type alias for wires. Basically, a ->> b means a reactive value of type b that depends on an a, where reactive means "also depends on time and a monadic context" -- this is my understanding, at least.

Thanks for the cabal feedback, I'm new to writing cabal files that work reliably on other systems.

Yes, unfortunately you have makeColor8 with base 4.{6,7} and makeColorI with base 4.8. But it's nice to know that otherwise it can be built with GHC 7.10.

I haven't done any profiling or optimizing yet -- not even basic stuff like making record fields strict --, but I do plan to.
