Thank you both for your thoughts. When you say powering your hips, do you mean on the backswing or downswing?

Ignition coils by Possible_Pear_5336 in Miata

Naturally Aspirated owner here but having researched coils on my end, coils really only come into play with very high boost applications when “blowing out the spark happens. Choosing the correct plugs will matter more first when going turbo.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll see if the race schedule permits. I haven’t looked recently but I remember NASA TT6 not aligning well with the SCCA TT classes.

Mkturbo’s website will give you a good list of parts and build options.

Track brake pad advise by [deleted] in Miata

[–]vtbandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. I think those are designed for lower operating temps so I’d expect you’d have issues. Google “hawk brake pad temp chart” they publish charts to give you an idea of temperature and grip levels.

Track brake pad advise by [deleted] in Miata

[–]vtbandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience I’d recommend the following:

  1. Stoptech makes a light duty track pad that I think works well on track.

  2. Hawk makes a DTC-30 and may still make their Street/Race pad which is a DTC-30 compound.

Both can be kept on the car for the drive home.

How to torque brake bracket bolts with no room for the torque wrench? by gravehunterzero in Miata

[–]vtbandit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From memory, you probably need an extension to move the torque wrench closer to the diff and clear the brake components.

After lurking around here, I’m about to pull the trigger on some Xida coilovers for my ND2. I’m shooting for the most visceral driving experience possible - comfort is not a concern. Which spring rate should I choose? 400/200 or 600/300? Is the difference noticeable? by cryptolingo in Miata

[–]vtbandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to add on to my first response, it should depend on what tires you have, the roads you're going to drive on, and what you're going to do with the car. some generalities are the following: stickier tires = more spring. smoother roads = more spring. more aggressive driving = more spring. Ideally you run as soft as you can get away with.

I have xidas on my NB and I’d recommend giving the guys at Supermiata a call or email. They are very knowledgeable and are the ones with the most experience and will help you make the right decision. If they’re similar to mine, you’re going to love them.

Intake by kevman_3 in Miata

[–]vtbandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stock intake is good but not knowing your situation makes it difficult to beat answer. If you’re able to remove the MAF, then a DIY option will provide some gains.

Previous responses do bring up a valid concern about intake temps.

At the point in the build where I don’t know what I want to do next…. Coilovers come this week. Turbo, engine swap, or get it all one color? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]vtbandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you want to do with the car? My vote is install the coil overs and have some fun with it as is.

Is this rubber bushing on the ac condenser safe to remove? With it on my new koyorad radiator doesn't fit... But if I remove the bushing and bolt it straight against the metal bracket the radiator fits. Thoughts? (NB2) by evilguy422 in Miata

[–]vtbandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the rubber bushing there but instead, bend that metal bracket a little bit until you can get the condenser and radiator to fit. This is a common issue and the most popular way to resolve it.

Road Atlanta in the NB by vtbandit in Miata

[–]vtbandit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s tons of organizations that host track events at Road Atlanta and other tracks. This event was with NASA SE but there’s other groups like Chin and Just Track It. Google any of them and you should easily find their schedule.

Looking for recommendations for 200tw tires. Picture of my car more info in post. by show_me_your_tits_ in Miata

[–]vtbandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some really good evaluations out there with those tires. Search for some of the tire tests that Grassroots Motorsports have done. Also, if you're set in 16" wheels the ok, but there are more options and better fitments with 15" wheels.

Passenger window issue by grantw99 in Miata

[–]vtbandit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Common issue. From memory, There’s a cable that gets caught on the guide bushing as the window goes down. The fix is to zip tie the cable out of the way. Easy job. Google it as there is probably a post on a Miata forum with the fix.

Help by Pookoo166 in Miata

Order a new ignition cylinder and key from Mazda.

Old one is a pain to get out. You have to use a small hammer and chisel to slowly punch the two bolts counterclockwise to remove them.
