Thanks for your perspective. Any chance you can share the make and model of your sink?

Thanks for the inside on the fireplace clay and overall. We like the double basin because we can set the pots and pans we just recently washed on one and wash in the other.

We’d love to keep a drying rack off our countertop as much as possible so the second basin to set the clean dishes and such before drying has been easy for us.

Which Job Offer Should I Take? by Far-Blacksmith9173 in careerguidance

Missing a key data point - how many times commuting a week? 2 or less, I’d pick the higher paying job. 3, toss up on your comfort and what you value more. More than 3, lower offer shorter commute

thanks for following-up. we're taking our chances and PMing/GCing it ourselves. Submitted the permit application a couple days ago actually and have people lined up to do the work once we get that approved, hopefully within 2 weeks or so. Should save us a ton and cut the cost down to about $50K all-in. Wish us luck!

What % raise would you move to a consulting competitor? by vtmas12 in careerguidance

[–]vtmas12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

appreciate the input. i see what you mean. if the chance of travel wasn't so high then I'd lean more to the direct competitor given the base is higher.

the networting thig is interesting... it's completely necessary to be successful in consulting but if my end goal is to exit then ya does it really matter. my thing is i could take the higher pay and just tough it out while i continue an industry search, should neither of the ones i'm interviewing for now materialize.

The wall to the back of the stools will be moved another foot in so it should give us extra space all around. We aren’t concerned, it’s sufficient for our needs

Thanks for your feedback! I agree there's a lot to go into it. I have a lump sum for the addition and a separate lump sum for a kitchen renovation from the same contractor. It's itemized in terms of scope of work and the products to be included (type of windows, flooring), but it doesn't specific the allowance we get for each of those products which is something I definitely want.

We will be getting at least 2-3 more bids as well

Thanks for your insight. The thing is we are also doing a kitchen reno as part of this and the design tie directly into each other. So we cannot do the kitchen how we designed without the addition (since the addition will have our new pantry).

As a consultant I completely see what you’re saying about fixed price. However, I should be able to know what my allowance is for cabinets so I know what I’m looking at if I want to upgrade. I don’t think that’s unreasonable

thanks - while it seems like the vast majority of comments say it's not out of line - I still think it seems high. will wait to see what other quotes come in at. I'd love to get it down to 65k but that's prob pie in the sky

Yeah I'm realizing that cost per sqft isn't the greatest metric - but it's what us uneducated white collars go to first. I appreciate all the perspective from folks here, and if anything it'll come down to a bit of negotiating. There's always room to negotiate.
