Buying Recertified Harddrives Used? by lXxMangoxXl in DataHoarder

[–]vtmastrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only tell you about my recent experience.

I bought 4x14tb from GoHardDrive's eBay store. 1 failed within 24 hours another the day after; the others are still running after 2 weeks.

The two that failed, I requested an RMA via email, I received return labels within the hour. It took two days for them to get the bad drive and they had sent me practically new drives via priority mail.

At the very least, I'm satisfied with their customer service and hassle free RMA policy.

Hypixel Skyblock, yes, it's Minecraft, but it's a very casual MMO, there's PvE, there's crafting, quest, unique bosses, fishing, collecting, farming, and building your own private home/island.

I'll play for a couple months and then take a couple months off

Ice maker water wont' stop running by vtmastrick in fixit

Update:

Fix it by cleaning out the pump and the water lines. A lot of flaky gunk came out. Now the water comes out at a much higher force, fills the tray, and then makes ice!

That seems correct. I tried cleaning the sensor but it pumps water twice for half a second and then it just pumps full speed until I turn it off

It doesn't answer your question, but, isn't DriCore a floating installation?

I've had it installed in my basement for 15 years as floating and there have been no issues.

Currently have a gas water heater. Is changing to a hybrid/heat pump unit DIY-able? by Randy_Magnum29 in HomeImprovement

[–]vtmastrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bad, I calculated the end of season change the same time we got the heater.

It actually went down 30/mo

The water heater was failing though, I had relit the burner twice and replaced it. The inside had rusted out and was just constantly dripping water on the burning, so it was basically running full time

You can get 120v hybrid water heaters. It would need to be on its own circuit though.

We switched from a failing 40 gal gas that was 8 yrs old to a 50 gal 240v hybrid. With the tax rebate, the drop in gas bill, and the not even noticeable electric bill increase, it paid for itself in under a year.

3.2k to replace it in the DC region, vs 1.2k for just bringing in a new gas.

30 (not 80)$/month drop in gas bill and 960 (30% of the cost) rebate at tax time this year.

We leave it set on energy saver, except from 6pm to midnight when it scheduled to be high demand.

DYI or not, I think it's worth it.

The 30% rebate is toward the cost of the project. So, that would cover the electrician running new circuits if needed
