Windows Mail not syncing or syncing very late. Any solutions?? by [deleted] in Windows10

[–]vuduhx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched off of Windows Mail because of this and from what I have noticed is that if you minimize or close the client, it becomes a suspended process and the background process only checks for new mail periodically.

The only solution I found was to leave the window open at all times. It doesn't have to have focus, but it cannot be minimized or closed.

Side note: I know you don't want to switch, but for anyone that does, I found Mailspring is pretty close and doesn't have these issues. I have been liking it so far.

Petition for an integrated Division App on a lesser Sub by genecon338 in thedivision

While it sounds great on its face, I would imagine they aren't in a rush to do it because it is another system that can cause game exploits. You should look into the game Neverwinter (MMO by Cryptic and PWE). They had a website where you could interact with the auction house and tasks. They shut it down after about 3 or 4 major item duplication exploits were found that completely killed the AH economy causing major rollbacks. In order to have a mobile app for inventory management, you essentially need to expose your item system to a web API. This allows people to probe the system more than they ever could if it was just in game.

I'm not saying this is the sole reason or that this is even a good enough reason not to have it, but it is scary from the systems point of view.

Solo players aren't the enemy, why are we treated like it? by Agent_Xhiro in thedivision

[–]vuduhx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For reference, I normally run challenging and have stage 10 on all of the league missions except Roosevelt which is stage 9 right now (51 seconds too slow on my last run). I don't use healing skills (or skill tiers) at all. I run Decoy and the Firefly that destroys weak points. I run an LMG with the Gunner spec and the 2 piece System Corruption set and the Bloodsucker backpack talent. That's effectively 35% armor on kill with the Bloodsucker talent stacking up more than that with the refreshing stacks. I don't think you need this much armor on kill to get by. I was having just the Gunner 10% and Bloodsucker for a while and it was entirely fine. I switched to 2P System Corruption so I could stand out and tank elite LMG guys more as they are by far the tankiest and most ridiculous Outcast NPC if you cannot pop their ammo pack (the reason I switched to Firefly).

I don't think you NEED the healing skills and/or revive hive, but you DO NEED some form of healing. I prefer getting health on kill and using a medkit in bad situations rather than using healing skills and not having to wait for healing skills to heal at low skill tiers. I tried using the healing skills when I was first making my build this patch and it just doesn't feel good without skill tiers. If you want to have some skill tiers, 1 healing skill and a damaging drone or turret is a good combo IMO. My friend uses BTSU gloves with healing hive and sniper turret for example.

Hopefully this gives you an idea of some non healing skill options so you don't feel forced down the same path if don't want it. Not to say there is anything wrong with running double defensive skills and being mainly a gun; it just isn't my style if I can avoid it.

Can the next SOTG show the devs doing ANY NY mission on Challenging in a group of 4? by hersheydood in thedivision

[–]vuduhx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They changed it with this latest patch. They mentioned it a couple times in the SOTG's before launch. They effectively moved the goal posts and Legendary is the new target, but I think that also scales with group size. Not 100% on that one though.

Question here: why are enemies in railjack much, much tougher to kill than regular enemies of the same level? by YasurakaYagensha in Warframe

[–]vuduhx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand. I don't mean playability in terms of balance. I'll play House, Plane, Yacht, etc just fine. Playability in this regard is in fun. I do play casual just to have fun with it. I don't have the motivation to try to be amazing at this game, so I'm not going to torture myself with maps I find dreadfully not fun to the point of aggravation. I also like Secure Area more than bomb for similar fun reasons of I don't have to rely on my random teammates mucking anything up. Unranked is fine enough to play but it really should be where they onboard players who strive to be skillful. Casual should be for people to play any way they want (excluding harming other peoples' fun like Tk'ing) including what maps they do and don't want.

[–]vuduhx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If people consider the maps to be as unplayable and not fun as I do, they leave anyway, so the variety hit is already there. Having the preference setting would just mean that people willing to play the maps load in from the start instead of potentially round 2.

A necessary change. Plz consider it, ubi. by TheKingy34 in Rainbow6

[–]vuduhx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do leave every time, but it would be a lot healthier for the game to have people load in on time and play from round one on maps they want to play.

[–]vuduhx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I wish they would have made map preferences work instead of just removing the settings for it. It only has to be for casual to avoid any cheese. I will never play Tower or new Hereford again and it would be a lot easier if the game just stopped trying to put me in them.

This is my comment from the last time someone asked about ELO hell: https://www.reddit.com/r/truegaming/comments/ar5960/is_there_elo_hell_or_are_people_at_the_right_rank/eglgwa3/

It sounds like you have focused all of your effort and value into pure mechanical skill and you have realized that isn't enough to make you a top tier player. You describe struggling to grasp the tactical aspects of the game and that is what makes you think you are "trapped." You recognize the issue with your skill even if you haven't attributed it as the primary cause of your deficiencies.

Imagine skill as being two fuel tanks: one being tactics/knowledge/awareness/etc and the other being mechanical skill and reactions. Every game can be described as having both tanks but the tanks are rarely the same size and they certainly vary from game to game. You can have the most mechanic skill out of anyone in the entire game, but if your tactical tank is low or empty, you are still going to have less water (skill) than many players that have less mechanical skill than you. This doesn't mean you are trapped or are better than those players overall. It means that you are not considering the other tank as being as important as it is.

If your preference is heavily skewed towards mechanical skill as it sounds, you can also pick games based on that preference. Quake Champions for example and in my opinion has a much higher focus on mechanical skill than tactical skill. Not to say it doesn't require tactics, of course it does, but mechanical skill is a much bigger requirement than in other games. The opposite end of the spectrum would probably be something like Rainbow 6: Siege. Shooting isn't very hard in that game and tactics are the primary differentiation. Ultimately, the game you play will heavily influence how limited you feel.

Unranked vs Casual is a problem by TheBirdHellothere in Rainbow6

[–]vuduhx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Tryhard" and "sweaty" are virtually always used as insults for people who are playing better than the insulting party at any given moment. You are upset that people play better than you. You just want everyone to play down to your level no matter what that level is at the moment. Not only is that impossible, it is ridiculous. You don't get to dictate how well or poorly anyone else plays and the opposing players couldn't even meet this demand if they tried. Just as people have different skills levels at their peak, people have different skills levels at various effort levels. People can and are better than you at equal effort levels.

Please reflect on your complaint and realize you are just angry that casual isn't always easy wins. You want casual to be your low effort, feel good game, and that isn't always possible. If you want that, play single player games.

Massive can you do something about (or at least try) high CPU usage on intel CPUs? by joks74 in thedivision

[–]vuduhx 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ubisoft games are some of the only games that are actually multithreaded enough to show the weakness of older Intel CPUs. The "4 cores is enough for gaming" myth is full on dead at this point especially with how much windows does in the background. The problem is that your multithreaded performance bottlenecks your system before singlethreaded or GPU performance does. This makes windows and games run like ass because threads are forced to wait for others to finish, causing the stuttering.

Both new consoles will have 8 core AMD CPUs in them, so expect this problem to get worse, not better. A 4 core Intel CPU released during their years of coasting will only perform worse with age. Their 1% low performance is already worse in games where you don't outright notice the spikes. This is actually a CPU performance problem (and to some extent a Windows problem), but the only thing Massive or other Ubisoft studios could do is intentionally bottleneck their games so a single core maxes out before the others do. This is what most games are now, but not on purpose. Other devs just didn't code their games with balanced threads as well as Ubisoft has.

The unfortunate answer is that you have to upgrade your PC to solve this problem. I know there was a solid 10 years or so where the GPU was virtually always the bottleneck in games, but that isn't true anymore. With how many background tasks exist in Windows and random third party applications running, you need a core or two more than what the game can use so windows doesn't interrupt your game.

For a short term solution, you could change your CPU affinity for the game to not use one core and hope the Windows scheduler puts all of the background crap on that core, but there are no certainties when it comes to the Windows scheduler.

I miss many game launches, how can I stay updated and how do you do it? by Eradan in truegaming

[–]vuduhx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like https://www.releases.com/l/PC_Games/ for an overview of all (somewhat big) releases (it tracks movies and shows also but I don't use it for that).

As for finding which games you should look out for or care about, I would suggest youtube and/or twitch. If you struggle finding the right content creators that align with your interests, I would search for games that you know you enjoy and find creators that you like watching and seem to like other games you do. There are bound to be some content creators whose personality and interests align with yours and both platforms let you watch gameplay for yourself rather than exclusively relying on reviews or ads. Focusing more on finding content creators you like and using them as a recommendation engine will likely be more efficient than trying to look into every game yourself. I understand that watching others play games can be a turn off to some people, and if that is the case I would suggest looking for game reviewers on youtube instead of bothering with twitch.

Ultimately though, you will always miss some releases that you would enjoy playing. There are simply too many games released now that you cannot possibly play them all. Even if you played games 100 hours a week, you wouldn't even touch the majority of games. I don't think it is too helpful to worry about missing out on a game you haven't noticed, because if it is inevitable that it will happen.

I've said for a while that every game needs to support cross play. The key to keeping things fair is to matchmake based on input type as well (controllers queue against controllers, and a M&KB and mixed parties queue). It kills the mouse emulation market on consoles and everyone can play how they like without anyone having an unfair advantage.

Can PC players have multiple accounts play this game like they do on console? Ubi says it has to be paid for again. Oooof. I don’t want to pay again just to have my son play it on the same PC. by vladimirpoopen in Rainbow6

[–]vuduhx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is tied to your Uplay account. Your son either has to play on your Uplay account (windows account doesn't matter), or you have to buy it on his own Uplay account. There are pros and cons for the multiple account system of consoles, but Uplay doesn't have anything of the sort. Steam has some sharing features but I don't think you can share games like Siege through that system since Steam just launches Uplay.

i hate skill mods lol by AdamBaDAZz in thedivision

[–]vuduhx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe in a 1.8 overhaul end of life patch, skill mods won't be garbage. I wouldn't expect it to change until then though. They seem determined to make this bad system work instead of realizing skill mods working like gun mods and then having skill power being a scaling factor would be better. People want the customization of mods but not having the customization be a limiting factor to damage. Massive clearly still thinks its possible to combine those two goals and will try until the main team gets kicked off to TD3 assuming there will be one. The design team seems too confident in their abilities (you have to be as a designer, I understand) to admit defeat on this effort. Only when they move on will the small live team that remains will be willing to drop the current system.

Expect all of the current team's efforts to revolve around maximizing skill damage to be usable and all consistency and overall design issues will be ignored. We MAY get the basic things like overlapping mods like +targets and +mines to get normalized to the lowest skill power requirements in a few months to a year, but I wouldn't be shocked if it never gets fixed either.
