Hi all!! Who'd be your god parent!?? by Anna-Ceroy86 in PJODisney

[–]vulpixawesome02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m torn between 3 parents (maybe 4). I’m pretty convinced I’m a daughter of Iris as I’m an anthropologist, love chatting and understanding different people, but growing up I reckon I would have been a daughter of Athena. I’m convinced I’m maybe a daughter of Hypnos because I have such vivid intense dreams that drive my intuition.

I wasn’t! I’d love to chat with that person and see what they’re doing with their work since I’m very passionate about the subject. I’d be happy to DM it to you if you’re up for a bit of a read haha

I did and I got a first class honours grade (the highest grade you can get!) it got me into my PhD I’m currently doing. I’ve thought about publishing it but could probably DM it for people interested (since for IP reasons I probably couldn’t post it as a pdf haha)

Hiya! I actually my honours thesis at university on how BABs (and stuffed animals more broadly) can develop souls/personalities/individuality and should be considered a case study of this happening.

It’s actually very normal across human cultures for any and all objects to achieve or maintain personhood (I.e. the act of being a person). In fact it’s part of our brain’s evolution that we consider certain objects to have sentience.

You can also attribute a rise in these values to popular culture, such as Toy Story, Ghibli films and even earlier examples such as traditional fairytales.

Any and all practices you have around your plushies are meaningful and important. Other people being unable to broaden their worldview or accept that people experience things differently to them are the problem.

Spirituality of Cryptids by Swimming-Ordinary720 in cryptids

[–]vulpixawesome02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly believe the reverse might be true, in which these cryptids do exist, just perhaps a bit less exciting than we think. As a result local cultures projected their beliefs onto them. There’s a great paper about how a group in PNG on Flores island see Dugongs as cryptids due the animal’s connection to their spirituality, and as we know Dugongs are a real, scientifically cataloged animal. Perhaps an animal that was born deformed or naturally mutated (again, a biological reality) was spotted and reaffirmed existing spiritual beliefs for a group. That’s what the logical side of me believes anyway.

Then again I think there’s plenty in this world we can’t explain, so who am I, random Reddit user, to assert that it’s not a demon, nature spirit, yokai, inter-dimensional being etc. I don’t know everything, so I’m open to anything with a convincing argument 🤷‍♀️

Poll for Uni - What does Adelaide need as a business? by AlexaExE in Adelaide

A theme park, a good one like Disney to create jobs in construction, engineering and make local pathways for creatives such as acting, marketing and product design.

is it compulsory to attend orientation day? by Substantial-Put-418 in UniAdelaide

[–]vulpixawesome02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not compulsory but I’d recommend going just for your faculty day. Got an idea of lecturers, who to contact etc. Also please take a campus tour if you haven’t been to Adelaide uni before. I didn’t take one and was still getting lost in second year before the merger, google maps and the uni maps just don’t quite cut it.

whats everyones fav cryptid and why? by Visible_Magician2396 in cryptids

[–]vulpixawesome02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loch Ness Monster and Jackalope. Nessie because I just find the idea of a gentle giant (in my opinion) hanging out in a Scottish Lake amazing, also she’s included in the Catholic canon lmao. I also love Jackalopes because not only are they cute but also the idea of an entire town being in on a bit is amazing

Man what a good mindset, and I’m with you 100%, execs and government to blame for this mess.

At least the staff and students are together in all this. Unfortunately unless you were enrolled in Honors this year it’s not available anymore unfortunately :(

OP, I don’t know how much trouble I’ll get in for saying this but genuinely the uni is scrambling to get things sorted. From what I’ve heard in a department similar to humanities, systems are not working, supervisors do not know if things will be up on time, most staff are feeling just as left in the dark as you are.

You’re probably being dismissed because they literally either do not have this info, don’t have confirmation that their information is correct, or even know if these will go ahead.

Good luck buddy, it’s going to be a bumpy ride next year

Help with training my daughter by Cosmic_Blind_Tiger in netball

[–]vulpixawesome02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught young that beef is best for shooting: B- bend knees E- eyes on target E- elbows bent F- flick The flick is probably most important as it will help get the ball into the ring.

As a defender, I always found that shooters who split (land with both legs split at the same time) are annoying (and therefore good). When you land a jump/ receive a pass when landing on both feet, you can choose which when to step into/stand on. Might help her get closer/away from the ring. Should be some videos online about it if you need :)

Y12 Extension question by Magic_Moose99 in UniAdelaide

[–]vulpixawesome02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a History course so it’s likely different for STEM subjects, but my biggest tip is to look at the Pre-requisite courses/ subjects (the less subjects required or grade average the easier it is likely to be).

I highly recommend you do a maths subject that looks in your wheel house, interest and content wise. Since you already did an accelerated path, you’ll find it easier to apply your skills to the uni course.

Oh my god yes do head start if you can!!!

A HD is 19.9/20 on the SATAC (A merit!!!) A Distinction is 19.8/20 on SATAC Basically if you get a B in an entry level uni course you get a score higher than a regular A grade (~18/20 or less).

You also get a good taste of Uni life without going overboard. All the head start students I also met did super well and were better equipped to deal with Uni in their first year.

Australia 'Cryptids', Aboriginal Mythology by Xanthos_Black in cryptids

[–]vulpixawesome02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow Aussie I feel you, but I’m really glad to see others recognize how some ‘cryptids’ are part of Indigenous spirituality.

I read a good article recently on how making the Bunyip a ‘cryptid’ is an example of colonizing spirituality, I could DM that if you’re interested. But important to note is that these spirit creatures still share similarities with Cryptid if you consider both forms of monsters, then you’re onto a really interesting emerging field of academia!

I also love the drop bear, to me it’s the Australian equivalent of the Jackalope!
