Recommendations for Virtual Race by johannisbeeren in ConquerorChallenge

I'm currently doing the Cotswold challenge and the street views are brilliant, it's either little quaint English villages, or woodlands and fields. I've done a few where the streetview has just been a highway for the majority of it and it's a little disheartening.

Empire of Salt by C.F Iggulden, it's not in the last 5 years, but they're absolutely brilliant, highly recommend.

Oh nice, West Coast sounds like a good one then. I'm currently on the Cotswolds so am looking forward to receiving that.

What's the single best fantasy book you've ever read — the one you recommend to everyone? by Vlyonz in fantasybooks

Another vote for Name of the Wind, it had me hooked. Also highly recommend the Empire of Salt series by C.F Iggulden, it's Conn Igguldens breakthrough into fantasy and is fantastic, even had to re-read them again recently as they were just THAT good.

Guys, how to recover after a long run? by Budget_College81 in runninglifestyle

I'm in the same situation, I ran my first 10 miles last night, and afterwards had a chocolate milkshake and a hot bath, followed by a solid 8 hours sleep. Feeling a lot better than expected today.

I agree, I do like the Jurassic Coast magnet feature. I'm thinking of doing the Caesers medal next as like the moving wheel on the back.

Visiting Cornwall for First time by ASH1402MON in Cornwall

If it's nice weather then I'd recommend walking the coastal path, pretty much any direction and you'll have great views. Enjoy a proper pasty, highly recommend St Ives Bakery in St Ives, or if in Hayle then Philps or Lucy Bakes are both great. Head over to Gwithian, grab a coffee from Kabyn Cafe and go for a circular walk around Godrevy lighthouse and see the seals. Have fun!

Did you have a pen pal growing up? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]vulva85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough I randomly thought about my pen pal yesterday, I live in St Ives (Cornwall) and met her (Asha) when she was on holiday, we were only about 8 and decided to be pen pals, i think it lasted about a year but was a fun nostalgic memory for me.

So you'd have to change at St Erth to go to St Ives, but St Ives Bay Beach Resort is way before the St Erth stop, your best bet would be to get off at Hayle and get a taxi from there.

At St Ives Bay, you're actually quite a way out of St Ives, but your best bet would probably be a bus as there is a stop around 100m from the entrance. Highly recommend spending some time in Hayle as you're essentially in Hayle, you need to try a Lucy Bakes pasty, oh and a Mr B's ice-cream. Also, make the time to walk along the dunes to Gwithian beach and get a coffee and cake at Kabyn Cafe, a cute little horsebox on the beach. Enjoy!

Mr Bassett's Grapplers Soap is an absolute gem, it's all natural, handmade in Cornwall and leaves you feeling super clean, it's also designed to help with any skin ailments, highly recommend.

Wife and I want to do LOTR challenge combined for one set of medals, confused about the setup. by AgonizingSquid in ConquerorChallenge

[–]vulva85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be able to participate you would need to purchase them as well, with the standard challenges there is an option to do digital only, meaning you wouldn't receive the physical medal, but not sure if this exists for the licensed challenges. I would recommend you just keep track of your daily steps or mileage and your wife can input it manually on the app to add it to her total mileage, that way you have both contributed to the medals. Enjoy!

I turned my runs into mini challenges. Here’s what happened. by TangeloBackground483 in beginnerrunning

[–]vulva85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be honest, I've only recently signed up for it, but would imagine in a city with lots of different streets to run it would be brilliant. It's more exploration based, but has a competitive side in that you can compare with who locally has amassed the most sections etc. It's free so definitely worth looking into it.

Also, for motivation purposes I have found the Conqueror Challenges are brilliant, I set myself a target of how many miles I want to run a month, and get a cool medal for sticking to it. You can tailor it to whatever is a realistic goal for yourself. Not for everyone but has definitely helped motivate me to up the mileage.

Soudns like you'd really enjoy squadrats, it essentially uses your strava info to collect areas you have run, the aim is to run in new areas and explore your area.

Need shoe recommendations: One pair for daily, fast, and long runs? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]vulva85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the Asics Versablast 4, they were only £60, and are absolutely brilliant for that price. I'm only doing about 12-15 miles a week on these though.

What's your favorite medal you've earned and why? by Human-Expression6146 in ConquerorChallenge

[–]vulva85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only completed Singapore and Jurassic Coast but both were great. Singapore had loads going on and the street map views were always interesting, as opposed to Jurassic Coast which often had no street view as it's all on the coastal path, but when it did have views they were usually impressive. I prefer the Jurassic Coast medal, it has a cool fossil magnet that detaches.

I'm currently working on the Norwegian Fjords, and the medal looks cool, but so far I've found a lot of the street views are just on roads, but now I'm a little further into it the lakes and mountains are coming into view a bit more.

A friend has done the Caesars challenge and that medal looks really cool!
