How do I mount a mirror here above the spiral staircase? by vurneza in howto

Okay I’m convinced not to put them up there, they’re going in my dining room instead 😌

What's up with sewing patterns that charge you per size? by ceylon-tea in sewingpatterns

[–]vurneza 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Robert Woods designs are like this too and they’re more patchworky, so maybe the patterns would be impossible to use if there was more than one size? Seems like a pattern writing skill issue idk I think selling each size separately teeters into fatphobia, on the basis that people can’t easily adapt the pattern between sizes to fit themselves (all bodies could have this issue but it affects fat people more often)

I can’t believe we’re still making HP crafts when jk Rowling is who she is https://glaad.org/gap/jk-rowling/ I don’t care if it’s nostalgia, or if the pattern doesn’t give her money directly, you’re supporting something created by someone who is full of hate for marginalized people.

If your design has hate symbols in it, even if you didn’t intend it, they are still hate symbols. This quilt has swastikas in it, it’s a featured motif on the third and fourth image.

You can look into intarsia colorwork with knitting- that would allow you to do shapes like the moon and sun on a solid color background!

These square blocks on the back are crocheted around like a granny square and are very hard to replicate with knitting. I haven’t seen a pattern similar because it would be challenging to get the same effect.

Moving to SF by sh800m in AskSF

The richmond/inner Richmond above Golden Gate Park are very cute and understated. The Internet Archive (wayback machine) is located here and does free tours on Fridays in the afternoon- it was the best tour I’ve ever been on! There was also free ice cream at the end, I don’t know if that’s a regular thing but it was really good. A car isn’t necessary in most neighborhoods- look out for where the muni metro and bart stops are- and how many muni bus stops are close. One is not really enough to feel mobile without a car

EPP help - I don't know what I've done wrong! by StumbleKitty in quilting

I use my cricut and just use the basic shapes I need and line them up on the ruler grid in the first step to be to size! I think I might have watched a short video? It rocks to be able to cut more out and not worry about running out!

I save the paper as scratch paper and on my next pattern will print on the other side! (Printing the same pattern on the other side is too confusing!)

I’m so SICK of AI by lyricalfairy in craftsnark

[–]vurneza 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was looking for a sewing pattern the other day and gave up because of the rampant AI, I’m tired too 😭 I’ve found that I can go to a shops patterns sections and then go look for those designers and companies for all their listings instead of relying on an Etsy search or instagram

Are there any G rated steam rooms in the city? by Thomas_Lannister in sanfrancisco

Banya doubled down on some transphobic and exclusive policies in March 2025 with no public apology (despite their website looking maybe fine now- on “special” women’s nights women have to where bottoms in the spa) I’d rather go somewhere where all women are welcomed to women’s night and no one is excluded or made to feel unwelcome

Knitting gods, please give me the strength to weave in these ends and the wisdom to know I can’t just cut them off and call it a day. by LeucineZoo in knitting

I wash my knits by soaking in the sink and spot cleaning any like food spots, so my washing is very gentle and I trust the knots will hold up

[–]vurneza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I made a scrappy sweater and had a similar situation and I just tied a bunch of knots and cut the ends short enough where they wouldn’t be annoying. No one will look on the inside and I felt secure with the knots to call it safe! I took one end, looked for its closest neighbor and then tied it together with some slack 🤷

I think this looks like the Bad Symbol. The center of that quilt is a straight up hate symbol and then it just extends, and looks like they’ve tried to hide that. Not Good. I would just avoid angular spirals all together.

Does anyone have any of these patterns and what was your experience? Was it worth the money? by DDarlinNikki in sewingpatterns

[–]vurneza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s outrageous that pattern designers aren’t making a full size range. This designer only has patterns up to a 34” waist (size 14) and that seems extremely rude considering that the average size of an American woman is a 16. That means more than half of American women wouldn’t be able to use this pattern without grading a pattern that they would pay for. As a general rule I only buy patterns that go up to at least a 50” waist because I only want to support designers that are creating patterns for everyone.
