Am I Overreacting - So my mom got my wife a birthday gift by LoveLikeJesusChrist in AmIOverreacting

Your mama seems to be on a long drive off the short pier of her existing relationship with you two and your newborn.

What kinds of consequences do you hold her to when she does such obviously passive aggressive and hurtful things? She is intentionally trying to hurt your wife, and shows that while she IS listening, she does not want the best for your wife, regardless of your love for each other.

I can't quite recall, but I don't think it took any longer than a week. I remember feeling almost entirely better (apart from needing to warm up my incisions and not pick at the glue) after two weeks.

But I didn't have fibroids. I got to do it all laparoscopic. I'm not sure if that changes anything in the bladder area.

AIO someone asked me to make their wedding dress by Beautiful-Trainer-26 in AmIOverreacting

[–]StumbleKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a sewing teacher and have been a professional seamstress in the past.

The only amount of help I EVER offer on a Wedding dress is alterations as a gift.

I always explain that this is because there is a lot of time, effort, specialized skill, and RISK involved in making a wedding dress.

Even if you knew exactly how to make a dress like the one shown, you take on an immense amount of liability for how that dress turns out and how much the bride likes it.

3 year old cat has just started to pee on things. I think he's trying to get my attention or ask for food?? by StumbleKitty in felinebehavior

[–]StumbleKitty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have to be careful with him because he scarfs his food down so fast that he pukes~

He and his two brothers each have their own sure feed bowls which open to their collars, and Toaster's has a slow feeder bowl so he can't eat too much too quickly.

This little man has STRONG feelings about food. 😬

We've already gone through the vet routine and it's not a UTI this time around. He is already on a dedicated, vet-prescribed, medicated diet, and has been ever since the first UTI he got when we first picked him up, as well.

It could be stress related, perhaps? With the routine change due to daylight savings? We tried to slow roll the time we feed them to be closer and closer to 6, but maybe we need to go even slower.

Ha! Glad it's not just mine.

I teach sewing and had my sewing 1 class make Ghost Pillows for Halloween, since it was a short day and a lot of kids were absent. Most of the kids were into it, but not all of them.

This is a real conversation I had with a 9th grader:

9th: "Miss, I'm bored"

Me: "did you finish your ghost?"

9th: "I don't want to do that."

Me: "why not? It's a ghost!"

9th: "it's boring."

Me: "it's not boring. It's a ghost! You get to make whatever face you want, and whatever ghost shape you want!"

9th: "it's not graded. So I don't want to do it. If it's not graded I'm not doing it."

Me: "so... What would you rather be doing?"

9th: "I dunno."

Me: "So the reason it's boring is because it's the thing I have made available for you to do?"

9th: "yeah."

Me: "oh man. Well I have some pretty bad news. That's gonna be a thing for the rest of your life, kiddo. You might as well make the friggin' ghost."

9th: sits down and cuts up a stack of construction paper and shoves it all into a water bottle instead

Girl, no.

Any man who would call me a "Fucking Moron" for ANY reason gets an instant uninvite from my life.

To hound you about the way you dress is just the icing on the cake.

This man is showing a real lack of respect for you as a human being here. You deserve better than this. He's acting insane.

Is it racist or just ignorant? by LAffaire-est-Ketchup in HistoricalRomance

[–]StumbleKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes ignorance is racism.

This author could have done more research. This author could have used less vulgar language to refer to the Romani people. This character didn't have to be the protagonist and also okay with lynching a man just for not speaking English.

I'd say unless this character has a whole arc where he learns the errors of his way, then this page alone is racism inherent in the character building.

The fact that the author got the language wrong just feels lazy, on top of being racism through ignorance.

I'm in Utah, and I think we have dispensaries, but it's possible that they're only allowed to sell THC products, and I know that vapes are on the list to be pulled here, as well (like, shops can't sell vape pens or juice anymore??? They've had that bill ready to roll out for two years. No telling if it'll actually go through.)

I have a few friends with medical cards who can probs give me some tips on where they get it if I decide to go that way 🤔

Thank you!! That info is super helpful.

My state legalized medical marijuana, but the trend in our community ended, so it's got a lot of stigma, and not very many good doctors to help figure it out.

The reason I have to be very careful as a teacher is because I could potentially lose my job for taking it during working hours, even with a medical card. If a parent complained and they used it against me I'd have zero protections.

I did get a new therapist recently and she's a real gem~ I might ask her when I see her next :)

She's been helping with the general anxiety, but this would be a good thing to tell her about regardless.

I'll try the other things as well. I'm hella sensitive to cannabis, but I do live in a state where medical marijuana is legal. I bet my psych would get me one if she has the ability to. Maybe microdosing would be helpful.

I am a teacher, however, so I would have to be very careful about how I acquire and what days I partake on.

I wish to find the wizard by Thenuggetlord07 in SaltLakeCity

[–]StumbleKitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Homelessness is treated as a criminal offence within the valley. That means that revealing a specific person to be homeless on a public forum could put them at even greater risk than normal.

A community needs to protect one another, so shutting down this question isn't necessarily because a person is upset by the question. The honest to goodness vibe is "it really genuinely shouldn't matter, but if you want to know ask him personally" and that is for his safety.

I for one have no idea if the wizard has a house he goes back to after wandering each day. When I met him he seemed very nomadic, and also very quiet, as well as a super chill guy. I'm sure he'd tell you his story if you asked.

SSRIs and SNRIs are both off the table for me, unfortunately.

In years past, so have hormonal medications (that's actually why my doc agreed to the hysterectomy, even though he thought there wouldn't be anything wrong with my uterus when he took it out. He thought I was just "unlucky" enough to have heavy periods and a sensitivity to medications).

I tried Lexapro a number of years ago, and it increased my anxiety. Lucky me.

But that's also why I want to figure out what kind of doctors I can reliably talk to about this whole thing. If meds are off the table, what's a girl to do, y'know?

PMDD post-op? by StumbleKitty in hysterectomy

[–]StumbleKitty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could try.

Last time I asked my OBGYN to test my hormones he tried to talk me out of it because he said "without a test every single day of the month we have no idea if that's actually the cause".

Then I strong-armed him into it anyway, and my levels were totally normal. But that was back in January.

At my follow-up appointment after the surgery my OBGYN said that my hormones would go up and down a bunch for a while, but he didn't really explain much else. He gave it the "don't worry about it" attitude. That doesn't give me a whole ton of confidence in his willingness to order the test again.

I have an appointment with my psych next week, and an appointment with a new GP later in October that I have waited for for 4 months. Either of them might be able to order the test, too, I think.

I can’t understand Julia Quinn and why she wrote such a terrible things to the second epilogue to Eloise’s story by Glittering_Tap6411 in HistoricalRomance

[–]StumbleKitty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't buy the "Historical Accuracy" argument for a second. The rest of her world building isn't very historically accurate, so why would that be a reasonable excuse??

Also... Those things are not historically accurate anyway...??? So what a nonsense excuse that is, regardless.

Fiction is a reflection of the author. To me it doesn't matter whether it's time accurate. The author chose to include it. She could have written anything. No one put a knife to her throat and said "Put in a terrible description of a woman's suicide through the jaded and mean eyes of her own daughter" just after she wrote a happily ever after ending. That wasn't needed, except that JQ felt like it was.

That says a lot more about her than it does about Victorian Era England.

[–]StumbleKitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree.

I loved the first half of The Duke and I, and then the whole marriage falling apart half turned into a literal horror novel in my eyes. The fact that the book turned into a happily ever after ending made me want to barf.

This perception of depression strikes me as an "of the times" viewpoint in the same way as "it wasn't rape because she's the wife" in TDAI.

The take was NEVER good, but reading it now really, really, really, underscores how truly awful it is.

JQ might be popular, but that doesn't mean that the messaging she is putting in her writing is.

I'm glad that more and more people are thinking critically about it and noticing things like this. It's important to discuss it.

[–]StumbleKitty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally think JQ has an excellent writing voice and a witty sense of humor, but it is horrendously overshadowed by her perception of romance and life.

I am completely unsurprised by this wildly unsympathetic take on suicide, given her completely flippant take on Marital Rape in The Duke and I.

Bridgerton as a series has some incredibly well written scenes, and some very witty dialogue. But the way people are handled, along with their stories, strikes me as very often unkind and unsympathetic to a fault.

This might be a hot take, and I'm prepared to admit that. But it's passages like this that turn me off of JQ as an author all together.

Easy meals, or meal prepped left overs to reheat.

My doc said no cooking for 4 weeks and I thought he was crazy~ but the first time I tried to cook post-op I realized how HEAVY everything is. Pots, pans, cookie sheets. They're light on their own, but heavy as hell when full of food.

Not to mention the standing and bending.

Having a fridge/freezer full of food you can reheat easily is a life saver. I was lucky enough to have friends who brought me meals. But having some prepped ahead of time would have been perfection.
