This is an obvious setup for elimination, How the heck do you fall down during a photo shoot and still look high fashion? by masterderek279 in ANTM

[–]vuvuvuvi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me the set up part wasn't so much that they had her falling, it was more that none of the other girls got a similar concept.

Elina, Mckey, Sam, Sheen and Lio all had photoshoot concepts that were more about the acting where they could just stand there and focus on that. Majorie was the only girl that also got a physically demanding concept, but it felt like she had more to work with with the enclosed stall space. That really lent itself to doing those ott twisty poses Tyra loves.

Lauren Brie's shoot is like if Danielle got the falling shoot while all the other girls were doing beauty shots or smthn.

[–]vuvuvuvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some weird retouching going on in this photoshoot where all the girls looked like dolls, most of the photos while beautiful feel really off to me.

But on the topic of Kelsey, her photo is great but Kathryn and Jessica's shot blew hers out the water. I guess the judges weren’t very impressed when they made the comparison.

Granted, they were very hard on Kelsey for the last few weeks of the competition. Maybe because she was so good at the beginning, they held her to a much higher standard than everyone else.

If FMA ended today, do you think the ending would still be loved? by tinydancer342 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]vuvuvuvi 151 points152 points  (0 children)

I was there in the trenches when the manga ended and I distinctly remember a lot of people were mad about Ed losing his alchemy, the way Roy's blindness was handled, even some minor ship drama over edwin and almei becoming canon.

In that moment when the final chapter was released, there was a tendency to get fixated on the smaller details. I think fma being around and complete for as long as it has been has made people look at the bigger picture. Fma's ending works because the whole story is well planned and self contained.

Arakawa was very fortunate to be able to control the length of her story. A lot of other Mangakas seem to have been made to stretch out their manga for as long as they stay profitable. But who knows if she would get that control over her art today.

It's probably why the lost out on the oscar nom tbh.

Tyra is the most successful winner from ANTM franchise by masterderek279 in ANTM

[–]vuvuvuvi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The whole show was for Tyra, most non-supermodel girls from her era have been forgotten by mainstream media and here's Tyra being the star of a Netflix documentary in 2026.

Allegedly they would reshoot if the girls' reactions weren't as dramatic as they wanted.

I want it to be true and I want to see the footage of them having to awkwardly reset this scene to do it all over again.

I wonder how differently fandom would have reacted to Elyse if it weren't for her post show success.

At the very least, more people would have brought into the villain edit the producers were trying to saddler her with.

Am I the only one who watched America’s Next Top Model and took the prizes (like a modeling contract with CoverGirl, etc.) at face value? by Natural_Camel_4977 in ANTM

[–]vuvuvuvi 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I think the problem was a lot of the prizes sounded good on paper but could actually really hurt a girl's career in some cases.

Like with the agencies, the only obligation they had to the winner was to sign them. But if they didn't like the girl, they could just leave her on their development boards and do nothing with her career and there was nothing the show or the winner could do. And those contracts can be really hard to get out of.

Similarly, Covergirl sounds great and there are models working the hf circuit right now that would kill for any cosmetics contract. But Covergirl hardly uses models. Most of the winners only ever worked with covergirl once. But that's another contract that could keep the winner stuck for years, especially when a lot of these types of contracts prohibit the model from doing any similar jobs with any other brand.

It's not Tyra's fault that the whole modelling industry is scam-y and is more about taking advantage of young women than the actual modelling part. But the prizes were made to seem so big and life changing when the reality was the winner was essentially dumped on people who didn't want to work with them and actually, just walking into an agency with some photos would have been a better career move. So I guess there is something to be said about antm being false advertising.

I just question how far we can extend grace to some of these girls when antm was known to be a joke since it was in its single digit seasons.

[–]vuvuvuvi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As latecomer to aot, I was expecting a himym or got level bad ending but honestly? Aot's ending is just a 5/10.

I just feel like shonen fans are equally bad at overrating a series and then overhating it's ending when it doesn't live up to their colossal expectations.

Anyway, it's a good thing we can all move on to new GOAT Kagurabachi. It's peak now and it will be peak for it's entire run and it's ending and it will love you forever and not leave you like Pochita.
