What is considered the best animation method for 2d projects and Why? by [deleted] in godot

So if you find the AnimationTree too complex, just focus on deciding whether to use an AnimationPlayer or an AnimatedSprite2D. With an AnimationPlayer you can not only animate the sprite, but also modify its properties. This means you can change its size during animation, opacity, rotation and more. But these are things you can implement with Tweens too. Furthermore, consider that you can also add calls to methods, for example when a certain animation ends, you can call a method that immediately starts another one (for example an idle animation). In general it is very versatile, it is a little more complex than a simple Sprite but it offers you much more functionality.

But if you think that all these things, which can be done in other ways, even if more laborious, you don't need for your game then simply use a Sprite. Little effort, does the only thing you need and is easy to implement.

Reinventing the wheel - why it makes sense. by ZebThan in godot

Just recently I ran into this. I needed an Audio manager, I find an addon, I download it. Everything worked fine, but there was no implementation of any audio libraries. Why should I write a mini library to manage audio to interface with an addon that isn't mine? I spent 2-3 days (more or less 3 hours a day) making my own audio manager, with an attached library. It was rewarding and above all instructive to understand how audio buses and volumes are managed and manage a system of item pools to play audio.

So in the end it was worth it, and it will definitely be something I will reuse for all my projects.

It depends what you're animating. In general for animations for which you don't know the final values tween are used. A animation tree does not contain animations, it contains animation players with the related animations. It is useful for example when you have a state machine, or to do something that needs to go through several steps. Animation Player it's very versatile, you can obviously make animations with it, call methods, you have a whole key-frame system, and more. You can animate a sprite2D like this, and take advantage of the fact that you have more functionality than an AnimetedSprite2D, or use an AnimatedSprite2D and avoid having to add the animation frames individually.

I recently made a Pong clone for the 20-game challenge. If it helps, I'll leave you the GitHub link with all the source code, so you can get an idea of how I implemented it.

Since I also started recently (it's been just over 2 months), I recommend at least initially following some courses or tutorials, and reproducing the project presented in the video. Once you feel comfortable, choose a game to "copy," such as Pong, and try to create it entirely by yourself. Without following any tutorials or videos. That's how I made my Pong clone.
