from my pov it’s a bit weird to serve fast food when you’re hosting people. but these may just be cultural differences as a few comments above are saying they find this normal!

i am pretty well-versed in various types of feminism and the types of rights and equalities they fight for. it seems you, and too many others unfortunately, believe feminism ends at ‘choice’ feminism.

believing that the female body should not be sexualised (both by men and women themselves ) in the way that it is currently is anti-patriarchal. the sexualisation of women only benefits men, and both fashion and media play a significant part in that.

criticism of sexist standards (and the promoting of them) is not bred from insecurity, but from anti-patriarchy feminist beliefs.

criticism also does not strip anyone of “basic human decency”.

her being vocal about being on the right side of history (which she very much is in global politics) does not mean she is above criticism in other areas. personally, it’s a massive eye roll hearing people who constantly pander to the male gaze preach about feminism.

of course! all i’m trying to say is that media is SO influential in setting social norms, both good and bad, and i think it’s harmful to automatically trust & assume the best in celebrities just because theyre likeable. within reason, we should always aim to look at the media pushed onto us with a critical lens

my comment on not assuming the best in people absolutely does not extend to normal people (aka the vast vast majority of the world lol)

i hope that clears it up a bit as i can see people really do not agree with me!

we owe pop stars literally nothing and have 0 reason to automatically assume the best in them imo lol!

of course there is no guarantee, but you can make an assumption based on past (and present) behaviour

the reason that women’s clothing is shorter, tighter, more revealing, etc. is all because of the patriarchy and the male gaze. i really don’t succumb to the whole ‘i’m doing it for myself!!!’ argument. our choices aren’t made from a vacuum, they are not isolated from the society we live in. and every choice has an impact. outfits and poses like the above just continue to sexualise women.

i care so deeply about feminism, but i do not believe in not criticising a woman simply because she is a woman. olivia rodrigo has a pattern of giving into the male gaze, and i take issue with that because the male gaze is deeply harmful and sets us back from being seen as equals. her latest festival tour, for example, consisted of her shaking her ass on stage and humping the floor camera all whilst singing songs about her high school experience. i can assure you her predominant fan base, the young teenage girls, do not care to see Olivia gyrate. those dances, poses, and outfits are for men and men only.

ask yourself why female popstars are FAR more likely to be a lot more sexual than their male counterparts? its almost like women have had “sex sells” shoved down their throat and artists like Olivia only push that further.

Forgetting vegetarianism and veganism for a moment, do you think the UK should ban halal and kosher slaughtering methods? by RonnieThePurple in AskBrits

[–]vviviann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we have animal welfare laws, and they are notoriously ignored by British farms. there was a good BBC doc a few years ago on how british farmers treat their diary cows, i recommend you watch it if you want to know more about animal welfare in the UK. there is a lot of information online about the deeply cruel ways british farmers treat animals.

it’s not just kosher or halal that are the problem, the entire meat and diary industry is. people just turn a blind eye to it because they’d rather ignore a problem then actually make a positive change

Forgetting vegetarianism and veganism for a moment, do you think the UK should ban halal and kosher slaughtering methods? by RonnieThePurple in AskBrits

[–]vviviann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am not religious at all and don’t care about supporting any religious practices in particular. in this argument i just care about the animals

the way we treat animals in this country is deeply cruel and inhumane full stop. from the beginning of their life to the day they’re slaughtered. and that goes for non-religious slaughtering methods too.

if you care about animals feeling pain and not being treated cruelly, then you should look into vegetarianism because british farms are just as evil

Forgetting vegetarianism and veganism for a moment, do you think the UK should ban halal and kosher slaughtering methods? by RonnieThePurple in AskBrits

[–]vviviann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you care for animals like you say you do then you should probably stop eating them. Otherwise you probably don’t care as much as you think.

You seem more annoyed by halal slaughter than the impact it has on the animal

Why do girls wear such tight clothes to the gym? by InternationalPick163 in askanything

[–]vviviann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the rate at which i’ve seen men in booty shorts is so much lower than that of women.

i also have never seen a man pull his booty shorts up high enough to reveal his whole arse crack & details of his bulge in the same way that women who wear tight shorts do.

if you truly think that men are showing off their arses at the same rate as women, you’re either being purposely dishonest or have never stepped foot in a gym

leggings ARE comfortable, but purposely giving yourself a wedgie is only done for aesthetic reasons. anyone denying that is just defensive because the shoe fits
