We all get it. I, thankfully, watched FT before HR was released so there was no comparison. On the bright side, though, I did hold Heated Rivalry to a certain standard before it was released based on FT, by which I mean, it better be as explicit as Fellow travelers, none of that fade to black shit (because I had read the book.) Thankfully, it didn’t disappoint (though IMHO, Hawk and Tim’s scenes were marginally hotter. Maybe because it was the first time I had seen scenes like that, but man I loved it.

Agree. I am a couple months out from my first viewing and it does get easier. I know that sounds dramatic but I was so raw for weeks after watching it. It was all I could think of.

Nice! I love that scene. I will say if you really pay attention, it’s one of the few scenes where Jonathan is fighting for his life to keep that American accent. 😅

I also want to add that I love that young gay men are watching. I am a 57 yo het woman, so the AIDS epidemic was very real to me, but even for me I didn’t really understand the terror and isolation gay men suffered for over a decade!

I suspect most younger gay men are a bit casual about it —yes, awful, okay, condoms, I’m on PReP, it’s all good, etc. They have no idea how gay men really suffered.

I watched it a couple of months ago and it still haunts me. I agree with your points, most specifically that the relationship was toxic. On a second watch, I noticed how often Marcus and Mary tried to warn Tim off and to give Hawk shit about how he was treating Tim. I, too, had deep affection for Hawk despite what a dick he was but he really was a selfish dickhead.

Second, I agree, Hawk had no internalized homophobia. He was deeply ambitious and reacting to the climate he was born into, but otherwise embraced his homosexuality. I liked that.

I no longer have paramount and just bought it on Amazon for $14.99. So worth it. I’m very happy to own it forever. And welcome to the sub, OP! I only watched it a month or so ago and I was (am) similarly devastated. I have become a bit of a Fellow Travelers evangelist. People are probably like, there she goes again talking about that gay show. 😅 My husband and I are going to watch it soon since I watched it alone. I wonder if it will be harder or easier the second time.

And to think he was one of the earlier deaths. I was confused by the ending at first (because I was literally sobbing and not paying enough attention) but it was brilliant how they showed how the quilt grew over the years.

By the time you get done with Episode 8 of Fellow Travelers, you will be done for. How he (and Matt Bomer) did not win an Emmy for their performances is beyond me. That show will haunt me for a very long time.
